Monday Genea-Pourri - Week Ending 24 May 2021

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Hosted and moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) DNA Interest Group Meeting in a Zoom Meeting last Wednesday with 18 attendees.  We discussed the GEDmatch format change, the MyHeritge DNA match lists filtered by Genetic Groups, the departure of Ancestry's Chief Science Officer, my 4th great-grandparent AncestryDNA ThruLines numbers, my "Researcher Beware" article that ThruLines might be wrong, and my Autosomal DNA test and analysis summary.  In the second hour, we answered questions, successes and challenges of the attendees.

2)  Attended the San Diego Mayflower Colony meeting on Saturday in a Zoom webinar.  Richard Holledge presented "Lets Hear It for the Mayflower Mothers."

3)  Attended today's Mondays With Myrt webinar.  The panel discussed "What would you do better as a beginning genealogist" - I said "sourcing;"  North Carolina land grant records; Iowa adoption records; Chinese adotions; WikiTree challenge; Cousin Bait; Internet Archive donations; and hybrid society meetings.

4)  Wrote and posted a biographical sketch of my 7th great-grandfather #596 John Stone (1658-1735) of Groton, Massachusetts  for my 52 Ancestors post on Friday.

6)  AncestryDNA added 91 new DNA matches this past week, with 0 new ThruLines, and  MyHeritage added 35 new DNA matches.   Reviewed the new DNA matches on  AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.  Added Notes to 1 more AncestryDNA matches with cM values, relationships and known shared ancestors.

7)  There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 42,237 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 185).

8)  Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 63,313 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 189), and 137,887 source citations (up 268).   I TreeShared with my Ancestry Member Tree twice this week updating 343 profiles, and I resolved 1,216 Ancestry Hints.I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 151,332 to be resolved, but I work on them almost daily.

9)  Wrote 18 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which one was a press release.  The most viewed post last week was  New Feature: Filtering DNA Matches by Genetic Groups on MyHeritage  with over 444 views.

10)  We are still fine here at the Genea-cave, hunkered down and not going out much after Week 62 of COVID-19 isolation.  The Padres season continues, and they are now 30-17, but we didn't get to go on Saturday.  We watched the 6 games on TV.  I went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday.  I went to the dentist for my bridge installation and she didn't do it - she sent it back for correction. We went to indoor church on Sunday and sat in the vaccinated and maskless section.  Other than that, it was stay-at-home on the computer doing (mainly) genealogy, plus eating, sleeping, laundry, cleaning, cooking, and a little yard work (trimmed one rose bush).
