Chula Vista Genealogical Society Meeting on Wednesday, 26 May Features Judy G. Russell

CVGS General Meeting (in a Zoom Video Conference)
 Wednesday, 28 April 2021, 12 noon PDT

"No Vitals, No Problem: Building a Family Through Circumstantial Evidence (A Family for Isabella)"

Presented by: Judy G. Russell

When there is no birth, marriage or death record for an ancestor, only circumstantial evidence can place the ancestor into the family of birth. This problem is particularly acute for women married before the 1850 census who were never listed by name in a father’s household. Careful application of the Genealogical Proof Standard to all the records the family left throughout the years can often provide the clues back to the family of origin even if no direct document exists. Using these indirect bits and pieces lets us build a family through circumstantial evidence.

The Legal Genealogist, Judy G. Russell, is a genealogist with a law degree who writes and lectures on topics ranging from using court records in family history to understanding DNA testing. Judy is on the faculty of numerous genealogy institutes, including the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research, the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy, the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh, the Midwest African American Genealogy Institute, and the Genealogical Institute on Federal Records. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Board for Certification of Genealogists, from which she holds credentials as a Certified Genealogist and Certified Genealogical Lecturer . Her award-winning blog is at https://www.legalgenealogist.com.
