Carringers in the News -- W.V. Carringer Jr. Weds Genevieve Robertson in 1931 in Rock Island, Illinois

   It's time for another edition of "Carringers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Carringer (my mother's maiden surname) that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from The Cedar Rapids [Iowa] Evening Gazette and Republican newspaper dated 29 September 1931:

The transcription of this article is:  

"GENEVIEVE ROBERTSON BRIDE OF W.V. CARRINGER

"Mr. and Mrs. N.W. Robertson, 1909 Grande avenue southeast, are announcing the marriage of their daughter, Genevieve Lucille, to W.V. Carringer, jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. W.V. Carringr, 425 Twenty-second street northeast.

"The wedding took place Saturday evening at Rock Island, Ill., the Rev. J.L. Vance officiating.  The couple were attended by Miss Isabel De Fore and Morris Canfield, both of Cedar Rapids.  The bride wore a white satin gown and carried a bouquet of roses.  Miss De Fore wore a blue crepe gown trimmed in eggshell satin.  Mr. and Mrs. Carringer are both graduates of Washington high school.  Mr. Carringer is employed by the Montrose hotel.

"Mr. and Mrs. Carringer are now at home at 1909 Grande avenue southeast."

This marriage article provides the names of the bride and groom, the bride's parents names, the wedding location, and the education and employment of the two parties.

William Vincent Carringer was born 8 January 1909 in Clinton, Clinton County, Iowa, and died 14 April 1982 in Cedar Rapids, Linn County, Iowa.  He was the son of William Vincent and Nary Maud (Weaver) Carringer.  Genevieve Lucille Robertson was born 14 April 1913 in Cedar Rapids, Linn County, Iowa, and died 27 June 1982 in Cedar Rapids, Linn County, Iowa.  She was the daughter of Noel Wallace and Elizabeth Clotilde (Paukert) Robertson.  William Vincent Carringer and Genevieve Lucille Robertson were married on 26 September 18931 in Rock Island, Illinois.  They had one child:

*  Sally Carringer (1932-????).

William Vincent Carringer is my 3rd cousin 1x removed, with common ancestors of Martin and Magdalena (Hoax) Carringer.

There are hundreds of Carringer "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a newspaper article tells us something the wedding attendants and their clothes  I am glad that I can honor William Vincent Carringer and Genevieve Lucille Robertson today.  

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
