Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 10 January 2022

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Hosted the Chula Vista Genealogical Society Board Meeting on Zoom, and reported on the Newsletter, Research Group and DNA interest Group.  We have 4 new elected Board members.

2)  Wrote, edited and published the January 2022 edition of the CVGS Family History Gazette newsletter.   Articles about the 1950 US census, the 1921 England and Wales census, and the Ancestry subscription price increase were included.

3)  Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society DNA Interest Group meeting via Zoom on Saturday.  Colin Whitney presented on "Genetic Networks."

4)  Attended the Mondays With Myrt session today on Zoom.  We discussed the 1921 Census of England and Wales, the Ancestry subscription cost increase, the 1950 U.S. Census article from the National Archives, my "Best Of " post list, John's Dutch research for Finding Your Roots, Liv's research in the 1920 Norway census, and the WikiTree Connect-a-thon.

7)  Started documenting the Noad family research in Wiltshire - see  Rabbit Holes With Randy - Who Were the Parents of Elizabeth/Betty Noad (ca 1768-1814)?

8)  Worked in the 1921 Census of England and Wales to learn about it and promote it on my blog since I have a complimentary subscription.

9) AncestryDNA added 167 new DNA matches this past week, and there was one new ThruLines. MyHeritage added 27 new DNA matches. Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe. Researched and added notes for 9 AncestryDNA matches.

10)  There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 46,702 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 99).

11) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 68,135 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 102 from last week), and 143,880 source citations (up 49). I TreeShared 329 new or modified profiles with my Ancestry Member Tree, and I resolved 1,294 Ancestry Hints. My newest Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 21,987 to be resolved, but I work on them almost daily.

12) Wrote 23 Genea-Musings blog posts the past week, of which four were a press release. The most viewed post the past week was Ancestry Raising Subscription Prices Effective 1 February 2022 - Updated  with over 1,641 views.

13) I am still fine here at the Genea-Cave, hunkered down and not going out much after Week 95 of COVID-19 semi-isolation. Linda is at a memory care and skilled nursing facility in Chula Vista 7 miles from home and I visit her for an hour every day - we usually play Uno and she wins about half the time.  Now I have to have a recent COVID test in order to visit.   The Chargers lost their game on Sunday and won't be in the playoffs.  The Aztecs won their basketball game on Saturday. I went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday. Other than that, it was stay-at-home on the computer doing (mainly) genealogy, plus eating, sleeping, laundry, cleaning, cooking, watching TV news and sports, reading books, napping, and no yard work.
