Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 7 February 2022

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Hosted the Chula Vista Genealogical Society Board Meeting on Zoom, and discussed the newsletter, Research Group and DNA Interest Group activities.

2)  Write, edited and published by email the February 2022 edition of the CVGS Newsletter, the "Family History Gazette."
2)  Attended the San Diego Genealogical society DNA Interest Group, hosted by Colin Whitney, on Zoom.  Colin updated the group on GEDmatch, including basic and Tier 1 features.

3)  Watched the Family Tree Webinar "CensusGenie: Down to the Wire 1950 Census Prep" by DearMYRTLE and Cousin Russ.

4)  Attended the Mondays With Myrt session today on Zoom.  I discussed finding my grandmother's gardening awards in historical newspapers and the house my great-grandparents built that I grew up on. Hilary discussed 70 years for the Queen, then we found given names in different languages, John's review of the Anne Frank book, Pat's family photos, and Liv's photo and blog post.

6) Published a genealogy biography of
#153 Mehitable (Grout) Brigham (1725-1795) of Westborough, Massachusetts for the 52 Ancestors theme.

7)  Worked on the GEDmatch DNA matches and tried to find more known common ancestors using the GEDCOM and DNA match tool.  Not much success.  Looked again at the 23andMe DNA matches and found several for whom I have known common ancestors that can be input to DNA Painter.  Tried to get AutoClusters for FamilyTreeDNA matches on Genetic Affairs but it had problems.

8) AncestryDNA added 106 new DNA matches this past week, and there were notwo new ThruLines. MyHeritage added 17 new DNA matches. Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe. Researched and added notes for 3 AncestryDNA matches and added no ThruLine to RootsMagic.

9)  There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 47,235 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 179).

10) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 68,729 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 208 from last week), and 144,161 source citations (up 80). I TreeShared 413 new or modified profiles with my Ancestry Member Tree, and I resolved 1420 Ancestry Hints. My newest Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 24,898 to be resolved, but I work on them almost daily.

11) Wrote 17 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which three were a press release. The most viewed post last week was
FamilySearch: 1950 US Census -- The Next Big Thing in Family History with over 303 views.

12) I am still fine here at the Genea-Cave, hunkered down and not going out much after Week 99 of COVID-19 semi-isolation. Linda is at a memory care and skilled nursing facility in Chula Vista 7 miles from home and I visit her for an hour every day - we usually play Uno and she wins about half the time.  Now I have to have a recent COVID test in order to visit, but missed no days last week.  I went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday. Other than that, it was stay-at-home on the computer doing (mainly) genealogy, plus eating, sleeping, laundry, cleaning, cooking, watching TV news and sports, reading books, napping, and no yard work.
