Seavers in the News -- Everett H. Seaver Dies in Los Angeles in 1963

  Here is this week's edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the The Los Angeles Times newspaper dated 15 October 1963:

The transcription of the article is:

"Ex-Golf Champ E.H. Seaver Dies

"Mr. Seaver also won the 1908 Trans-Mississippi tournament and was a former director of the Southern California Golf Assn., the California Golf Assn., and the U.S. Golf Assn.  He represented the Los Angeles Country Club when he won the state amateur.

This obituary mainly describes the golf accomplishments of Everett H. Seaver, but does provide names of his wife and children, plus a place of death.  He was the grandfather of baseball player, George Thomas "Tom" Seaver.

Everett Herbert Seaver was born 2 September 1886 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of James Everett and Bella Ralston (Carr) Seaver.  He married Gertrude Lillian Sharp (1888-1964) on 3 February 1909 in Jackson county, Missouri.  She was the daughter of Charles and Katherine J. (Showers) Sharp.  They had three children:

*  Charles Henry Seaver (1911-2004), married (1) 1935 Betty Lee Cline (1913-1986); (2) 1987 Barbara Rector (1913-2012).
*  Katherine Jane Seaver (1913-1970), married 1933 Benjamin Perry Griffith (1905-1982).
*  James Everett Seaver (1918-2011), married 1940 Virginia Stevens (1919-2017).

Everett Herbert Seaver (1886-1963) is an 8th cousin 2 times removed to me.  Our common Seaver ancestor is Robert Seaver (1608-1683).

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person gets an obituary on the sports page. I am glad that I can honor Everett Herbert Seaver today.

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
