Best of the Genea-Blogs - Week of 17 to 23 April 2022

Scores of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  China – Potsdam a (rather) unknown connection by Frank Jatzek on SidetrackedGen.

*  DNA Milestones – Look at the Progress! by Robin Wirthlin on Family Locket.

Coming (soon): A book about Norwegian family history research by Liv Birgit Christensen on Genealogical Research in Norway.

Scots-Irish Resources for Genealogical Research by Linda Stufflebean on Empty Branches on the Family Tree.

*  Genealogy Tips: Problems with Personal Names, Place Names, Dates & Occupations (Part I) and (Part II) by Jessica Edwards on GenealogyBank Blog.

Let's Make a Match, DNA Style by Jacqi Stevens on A Family Tapestry.

*  The Truth About Citing Your Sources for Genealogy by Jennifer Dondero on The Occasional Genealogist.

Phasing Your Ancestors DNA by Jim Bartlett on Segment-ology.

*  The 1950 Census Follies! by Karen Packard Rhodes on Karen About Genealogy.

A Return to the Archives by Lori Samuelson on GenealogyAtHeart.com.

Here are pick posts by other geneabloggers this week:

*  Friday's Family History Finds by Linda Stufflebean on Empty Branches on the Family Tree.

* This Week's Creme de la Creme - April 23, 2022  by Gail Dever on Genealogy a la Carte.

Readers are encouraged to go to the blogs listed above and  read their articles, and add the blogs to your Favorites, Feedly, another RSS feed, or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I currently am reading posts from over 900 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.

Thank you for this week's mention. My husband has a lot of Scots-Irish, so I did some deep digging to learn more.

The result of one of the links is "Your access to this site has been limited by the site owner
Your access to this service has been limited. (HTTP response code 503)". Useless link.

It's both links by Linda Stufflebean that don't work, don't give access. One is about Scottish genealogy, but can't be read in Europe, apparently. Quite useless.

This has happened before when Linda's site has suffered spam attacks from outside the US. It was fixed briefly last week, but is now a problem again. Hopefully someone can let Linda know so she can fix it. Her posts are definitely worth feeding and can be read using the Feedly website, once subscribed to her RSS feed - though you can't click directly through, you see a simplified version of the page.
