Seavers in the News -- Mrs. Seaver Dies in 1964 in Twin Falls, Idaho

Here is this week's edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from The Times-News [Twin Falls, Idaho] newspaper dated 13 August 1964 )pages 1 and 2):

The transcription of the article is:

"Mrs. Seaver Dies As Result of Crash

"Mrs. Joseph H. Seaver, sr., 88, resident of Twin Falls for the past 58 years, died Thursday morning in Magic Valley Memorial hospital of complications from a two-car accident in which she was involved on July 27.  She received a fractured left arm and a fractured knee in the accident at the intersection of state highways 93 and 79, three-fourths of a mile north of Perrine memorial bridge.  She was a passenger in a 1950 Ford driven by her son, William H. Seaver, 61, 220 Ninth avenue north.

"Officers said Seaver was driving north on highway 93 and made a left turn into the path of a pickup truck owned by KMVT and driven by Charles Richard Christopherson, 20, 419 Fifth avenue east.

"Seaver and Christopherson were treated at the hospital and released.

"Immediately after the accident Seaver was cited for failure to yield the right of way.  Further disposition will be up to the investigating officer, State Patrolman James Gerke, according to the Idaho state police.

"Gerke was out of the Twin Falls area Thursday and was not available to comment.

"Mrs. Seaver came to Twin Falls in 1906 from Brooklyn, N.Y.  She was a member of the First Baptist church, Twin Falls, and the Scribbler's club.  She was a charter member of the Associated Charities in the early days of Twin Falls, the Twentieth Century club, the Twin Falls chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Every Woman's club of Castleford.

"Mrs. Seaver was born Aug. 30, 1875, in Ogdensburg, N.Y.  She was married to Joseph H. Seaver in 1899 in New York City.

"Surviving are two sons, William Seaver and Joseph H. Seaver, both of Twin Falls, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

"Mr. Seaver died in May of 1956 and one daughter, Ruth, died in 1911.

"Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the First Baptist church, Twin Falls, by the Rev. Ernest Hasselblad.  Final rites will be held at Twin Falls cemetery, under direction of White mortuary."

This is a news article plus an obituary for Mrs. Joseph H. Seaver in which she suffered an injury in a car accident.  The obituary provides a birth date and place, a marriage year, and names of her two sons, plus a list of her social affiliations in Twin Falls.  Unfortunately, it does not provide her given name or maiden name!

Ella Grace Smith (1875-1964) was born 30 August 1875 in Ogdensburg, New York, the daughter of H. Patrick and Ellen (Howe) Smith.  She married Joseph Henry Seaver (1868-1956) on 30 November 1899 in Boston, Massachusetts.  They had three children:

*  William Howe Seaver (1902-1989).
*  Joseph Henty Seaver (1906-1978), married 1936 Ruth Bellville (1900-1984).
*  Ruth Seaver (1909-1911).

Joseph Henry Seaver (1868-1956) is a 6th cousin 3 times removed of mine.  Our most recent common Seaver ancestor is my 8th great-grandfather Shubael Seaver (1640-1730).

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person dies after an accident, and the obituary doesn't provide her name. I am glad that I can honor Ella Grace (Smith) Seaver today.

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
