Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 24 October 2022

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Hosted and moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society DNA Interest Group Meeting on Wednesday on Zoom.  I discussed the recent forensic genealogy news, including AncestryDNA's grouping of maches by parent, MyHeritageDNA's sorting ability for Shared matches, and DNA Painter's new Coverage Tool.  In the second hour, my friend Marshall demonstrated his  ability to compare DNA Mach lists to find ThruLines added, removed, or changed in the past few weeks.

2)  Published a genealogy biography for the 52 Ancestors series for 7th great-grandfather #722 William Hawkins (1679-1712) of Providence, Rhode Island.

3) AncestryDNA now has 41,132 DNA matches (up 27 from 17 October) for me today, with no  new ThruLines.  Added Notes to 0 of them, and added 0 lines to  RootsMagic.   MyHeritageDNA now has 10,799 DNA matches (up 16 from 17 October) for me, with no new Theories.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

4)   The RootsMagic links to the FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families has quit working. I have matched 48,480 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 0).  RootsMagic posted a "fix" but I haven't worked through it yet.

5) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 70,077 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 1 since 17 October), and 145,426  source citations (up 3). I TreeShared no new or modified profiles with my Ancestry Member Tree, and I resolved 407  Ancestry Hints. My Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 175,350 to be resolved, but I work on them several times a week.  My MyHeritage family trees have 200,305 Record Matches in 286 sources and I work on them occasionally.

6) Wrote 15 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which one was a press release. The most viewed post last week was
Genealogy News Bytes - 12 to 18 October 2022 with over 160 views.  Genea-Musings had about 14,000 views last week.  I slacked off posting and researching over the weekend and today, but will get back to the "normal" research and posting soon.

7)  Real life:  This is week 137 since COVID restrictions started.  Linda is at a memory care and skilled nursing facility in Chula Vista 7 miles from home and I visited her six times last week.   I went grocery shopping on Monday and Friday.   I watched the Padres games every day they played and we lost 4-1 to the Phillies in the NLCS series so no World Series for Padres since 1998.  I watched the Chargers game on Sunday and we lost to Seattle 37-23.  My birthday was Sunday, so my daughter Lori and her boys came down to celebrate with me.  My daughter Tami brought her family down for lunch on Sunday and all 10 of us went to see Linda in the morning.  All of our descendants were there!  My  girls do a fantastic job of supporting us and we appreciate them.
