Treasure Chest Thursday -- 1696 Marriage of William Ladd and Elizabeth Tompkins in Little Compton, Rhode Island

It's time to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history and genealogy musings for Treasure Chest Thursday.

The treasure today is the 1696 marriage record of  William Ladd and Elizabeth Tompkins in Little Compton, Rhode Island:

The marriage record is the second one in the L section:

The transcription of this death record is:

"11, 161  [LADD] William, and Elizabeth Tompkins; m. by Joseph Church, Justice, Feb. 17, 1696."

The source citation for this record is:

James N. Arnold, Vital Record of Rhode Island, 1636-1850, First Series, Births, Marriages and Deaths : a Family Register for the People (Providence, R.I.: Narragansett Historical Publishing Co., 1891-1912), in Volume 4, Newport County Births, Marriages, Deaths, Little Compton Marriages and Intentions, page 38 (image 405 of 691), William Ladd and Elizabeth Tompkins marriage entry, 17 February 1696; accessed on "Rhode Island (U.S.) Vital Records Abstracts, 1636-1899," indexed database and digital image, Ancestry.com (https://www.ancestry.com : accessed 11 January 2023).

This record is a Derivative Source, with Primary Information and Direct Evidence of the marriage of William Ladd and Elizabeth Tompkins. The original record is probably in a Little Compton, R.I. town record book that is not extant.

William Ladd (1665-1729), the son of Joseph and Joanna (--?--) Ladd, married Elizabeth Tompkins (1675-after 1729), the daughter of Nathaniel and Elizabeth (Allen) Tompkins,  on 17 February, 1695/6 in Little Compton, Rhode Island.  They had 12 children.

William and Elizabeth (Tompkins) Ladd are my 7th great-grandparents.  I am descended through their son Joseph Ladd (1701-1748) who married in 1731 to Lydia Gray (1707-????)
