Seavers in the News -- Ethel Seaver Staniland Dies in 1972 in Buffalo, New York

 Here is this week's edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from The Buffalo [N.Y.] News newspaper dated 12 October 1972, page 54:

The transcription of the article is:

"STANILAND -- Ethel Seaver

"Oct. 12, 1972, suddenly, at her late residence, 900 Delaware Ave. in Buffalo, wife of the late George S. Staniland, M.D.; mother of Mrs. George M. Denny; grandmother of Mrs. Robert A. Murray and the late George S. Spaulding; also survived by three great-grandchildren; sister of Mrs. Howard N. Round.  Funeral private, Flowers gratefully declined."

This obituary identifies her name, residence, date and place of death, names of her husband, one child and two grandchildren and a sibling, with no education, occupation, or association information.  

Ethel Nicholena Seaver (1878-1972) was born 28 September 1878 in Buffalo, New York, the daughter of Joseph Vauxhall and Julia Felicia (Krapp) Seaver.  She died 12 October 1972 in Buffalo.  Ethel married George Samuel Staniland (1876-1962) on 26 June 1900 in Buffalo.  They had one child:

*  Ethel Blanchard Staniland (1903-1995), married (1) 1925 Charles James Spaulding (1903-????),; (2) 1936 George Miller Denny (1895-1964).

I am not relted to Ethel Nicholena (Seaver) Staniland because she is descended from an Irish Seaver who migrated to Buffalo, New York before 1845.  

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person has a very short obituary. I am glad that I can honor Ethel Nicholena (Seaver) Staniland today.  

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
