Treasure Chest Thursday -- 1704 Marriage Record of John Kenyon and Elizabeth Remington in South Kingstown, Rhode Island

I looked in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history and genealogy musings for Treasure Chest Thursday.

The treasure today is the 1704 marriage record of John Kenyon and Elizabeth Remington in South Kingstown, Rhode Island:

The marriage record is the first one for Kenyon near the bottom of the page:

The transcription of this marriage record is:

"KENYON, John, Jr., and Elizabeth Remington; m. by Thomas Mumford, Justice, July, 1704."

The source citation for this marriage record is:

James N. Arnold, Vital Record of Rhode Island, 1636-1850, First Series, Births, Marriages and Deaths : a Family Register for the People (Providence, R.I.: Narragansett Historical Publishing Co., 1891-1912), Volume 5, "Washington County, Births, Marriages, Deaths," page 30 (image 39 of 583), John Kenyon and Elizabeth Remington marriage entry, July 1704; accessed in "Rhode Island, U.S., Vital Extracts, 1636-1899" digital record collection, Ancestry.com (https://www.ancestry.com); Original data from James Newell Arnold, Rhode Island Vital Extracts, 1636–1850. 21 volumes. (Providence, R.I.: Narragansett Historical Publishing Company, 1891–1912); digitized images from New England Historical and Genealogical Society, Boston, Massachusetts.

This record is a Derivative Source, with Primary Information and Direct Evidence of the marriage of John Kenyon and Elizabeth Remington.  The original is probably in a handwritten South Kingstown record book that may no longer be available.

John Kenyon (1682-1735) was born in about 1682 in South Kingstown, Rhode Island, the son of John and --?-- (--?--) Kenyon.  He married in July 1704 in South Kingstown to Elizabeth Remington (1686-1747), the daughter of John and Abigail (Richmond) Remington.  They had ten children.

John and Elizabeth (Remington) Kenyon are my 7th great-grandparents. I am descended through their son Sylvester Kenyon (1710-1800), who married Anna Barber (1717-a1800) in 1740 in North Kingstown, Rhode Island.
