Seavers in the News -- George F. Seaver (1884-1976) Dies in Massachusetts in 1976

Here is this week's edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from The Boston [Mass.] Globe  newspaper dated 3 March 1976, page22:

The transcription of the article is:

"George Seaver; fought Chelsea's great 1908 fire

"A funeral Mass for George F. Seaver, 92, the last surviving member of the Chelsea Fire Department which fought the great Chelsea fire of 1908, will be celebrated at 9 tomorrow in St. Rose's Church, Chelsea.  He died Monday at his home in Stoneham after a long illness.

"Mr. Seaver was a native of Chelsea.  He was appointed to the Chelsea Fire Department in 1907.  When the Chelsea fire broke out the following year, he was in one of the crews that fought the blaze.  In 1909, e was appointed a permanent firefighter and, in 1922, was promoted to lieutenant.

"He leaves his wife, Etta (Lynch); two sons, George F. of Stoneham and Albert E. of Torrance, Calif.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

George Francis Seaver (1884-1976) was born 13 January 1884 in Wellesley, Massachusetts, the son of George Frederick and Margaret S. (Kennedy) Seaver.  He died 1 March 1976 in Stoneham, Massachusetts.  He married (1) to Elizabeth J. Higgins (1887-????) on 7 August 1906 in Everett, Massachusetts.  They had no children.  George married (2) to Etta Mary Lynch (1892-1988) in about 1915, in Massachusetts.  They had two children:

*  George Francis Seaver (1917-2005), married 1946 Mary Frances Lawless (1917-1998).
*  Albert Edward Seaver (1919-1991), married 1940 Dolly May Hill (1919-2006).

I am not related to George Francis Seaver (1884-1976).  He is descended from Edward R. and Bridget Hannigan) Seaver who migrated from Ireland to Canada and then Massachusetts before 1853.

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this is one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person participates in a significant event early in his life.    I am glad that I can honor George Francis Seaver today.

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
