Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week (ending Sunday, 2 March 2025).
1) Attended the CVGS General Meeting on Wednesday. Elizabeth Swanay O'Neal presented "10 Places to Search for An Ancestor's Death Date...Without a Death Certificate."
2) Transcribed the 1885 Mortgage Discharge of Alexander Sovereen from George Smith Holmested for Land in Norfolk County, Ontario for Amanuensis Monday.
6) Requested free AI tools to tell me about these genealogy subjects:
10) My AncestryDNA now has 48,522 DNA matches (up 139 from 23 February) with 2063 "close" matches today (up 11), with 1 new ThruLines. Added Notes to 5 Matches, and added one new DNA match line to RootsMagic. MyHeritageDNA now has 13,302 DNA matches (up 15 from 23 February) for me. Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.
11) Occasionally matched RootsMagic 10 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree. Matched 52,460 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 94).
12) Searched for more records of ancestral families on Ancestry, FamilySearch and MyHeritage, downloaded record images to my digital file folders, and added research notes, events and sources to RootsMagic profiles. My RootsMagic family tree now has 74,243 profiles (up 93 from last week) and 147,385 source citations (up 6). Added more short biographical sketches and source citations to ancestors, and edited historical place names for a number of families. Set off the Ancestry and MyHeritage Hints by searching for 2nd great-grandparents and later.
14) Real life events: Visited Linda several days at her memory care facility and we played Uno. Went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday. Attended the church men's Bible Study breakfast on Saturday. Stopped reading Simple Lies by David Baldacci (I read it last year) and started Judge and Jury by James Patterson. My SDSU Aztecs were 2-0 in college basketball, so are now 20-7. The Padres exhibition games have started and some are on TV.
