Randy's Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 2 March 2025

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week (ending Sunday, 2 March 2025).

1)  Attended the CVGS General Meeting on Wednesday. Elizabeth Swanay O'Neal presented "10 Places to Search for An Ancestor's Death Date...Without a Death Certificate."

2)  Transcribed the 1885 Mortgage Discharge of Alexander Sovereen from George Smith Holmested for Land in Norfolk County, Ontario for Amanuensis Monday.

3)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for Two GrandAunts Mary Richman (1823-b1825) and Mary Richman (1825-1825) of Hilperton, Wiltshire for the 52 Relatives theme.

4) Curated genealogy-related articles in Genealogy News Bytes - Week of 19 to 25 February 2025 Genealogy Education Bytes - Week of 20 to 26 February 2025, and Best of the Genea-Blogs - 23 to 1 March 2025 to keep myself and my readers updated on the genealogy world.

6)  Requested free AI tools to tell me about these genealogy subjects:
7)  Requested free AI tools to create a poem and song lyrics commemorating the life of my 2nd great-grandmother, Sarah (Knapp) Auble (1818-1904), and had Suno.com create a song using the lyrics.  Posted the poem created by Perplexity and the song lyrics by Grok 3, and the Suno song MP4, in "The Carpenter's Hands" --- A Family History Poem and Song Created by Artificial Intelligence.

8)  Did a lot of testing the free AI tools In Search Of the Perfect Genealogical Sketch using information from an Ancestry Member Tree profile.  Created about 20 of them for my close ancestors.

9)  Reviewed my MyHeritageDNA Ancient Origins results in Exploring My MyHeritage Ancient Origins Feature - Am I a European "Mutt?"

10)  My AncestryDNA now has 48,522 DNA matches (up 139 from 23 February) with 2063 "close" matches today (up 11), with 1 new ThruLines.  Added Notes to 5 Matches, and added one new DNA match line to RootsMagic.   MyHeritageDNA now has 13,302 DNA matches (up 15 from 23 February) for me.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

11)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 10 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  Matched 52,460  of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 94).

12)  Searched for more records of ancestral families on Ancestry, FamilySearch and MyHeritage, downloaded record images to my digital file folders, and added research notes, events and sources to RootsMagic profiles.  My RootsMagic family tree now has 74,243 profiles (up 93 from last week) and 147,385 source citations (up 6).  Added more short biographical sketches and source citations to ancestors, and edited historical place names for a number of families.  Set off the Ancestry and MyHeritage Hints by searching for 2nd great-grandparents and later.

13) Wrote 22 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which two were a press release. The most viewed post last week was Exploring My MyHeritage Ancient Origins Feature - Am I a European "Mutt?" with over 348 views.  Genea-Musings had about 98,000 page views last week and over 664,000 views over the past month.

14)  Real life events:  Visited Linda several days at her memory care facility and we played Uno.  Went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday.  Attended the church men's Bible Study breakfast on Saturday.  Stopped reading Simple Lies by David Baldacci (I read it last year) and started Judge and Jury by James Patterson.  My SDSU Aztecs were 2-0 in college basketball, so are now 20-7.  The Padres exhibition games have started and some are on TV.
