Thursday Fun - Are You Related To WikiTree Guest Stars?

Recently, I was on a Zoom meeting with Pat Richley-Erickson and we knew that we were cousins, but did not know the common ancestors or the relationship.

I recalled that WikiTree, a free-to-use collaborative family tree, had Pat as a "guest star" some time ago, and I wanted to see if WikiTree could figure out our possible relationship.

I found the WikiTree Connections page, and noted that they had a sub-category for "WikiTree Challenge Guerst Stars."  Here is the list of the "guest stars" to date:

There are a number of notable genealogists and genealogy bloggers on this list!  Even me, your humble amanuensis (I am profile Seaver-15 on WikiTree).

And there is my friend in genealogy, Pat (Player) Richley (she is profile Player-10 on WikiTree),  also known as DearMYRTLE.  I clicked on her name, and then on the "Find" button and on the "Relationships" item and entered Pat's WikiTree profile ID into the field:

Here is the closest relationship found by WikiTree based on the information available in WikiTree.

We are 11th cousins, with the closest common ancestors being our 10th great-grandmother Grace (Eastwood) Stansfield (and also her husband, Gideon Stansfield).

Further down this same page, there is a box that says "Explore more: 176 common ancestors were found bewtween Randy and Pat.  To view relationship trails, select the common ancestor here:".  I did, and saw the top of the list of common ancestors, all more distant than our 10th great-grandmother Grace (Eastwood) Stansfield.

This list goes down to common ancestors 30 generations back (Robert Malet (1088-1135)!  All of the persons on our common relationships list were born in England.

Note that the Relationship Finder page indicates that since Pat and Randy have "unknown confidence levels" in our WikiTree trails, that there is "unknown confidence" in our 11th cousin relationship.

I have been looking at other WikiTree "guest stars."  I will report what I find in occasional posts.

Is your profile in the WikiTree collaborative tree?  If not, you could add your ancestral lines to Wiki Tree and find connections to other WikiTreers?

If you are in WikiTree, are you and I related?  Just go to the Relationship Finder and put "Seaver-15" in the search field and see.  Please leave a comment to this blog post (or send me an email) if you are related.

I keep finding ways to have "genealogy fun" and getting into "good trouble."
