Here's mine:

2001 was an interesting and challenging year. We were healthy, our lives were busy, and full of variety. We spent almost four weeks in the San Jose area and had a two week summer vacation (combined with a business trip) in the Washington DC area. Linda’s father, Lee Leland, had some health problems but has recovered well, and is well established in his retirement center. Randy’s mother, Betty Seaver, is still living in her home in Point Loma and has had some health problems, as well.

We spent Christmas 2000 in the San Jose area. Linda flew up to be with her dad in the hospital the week before, and Randy drove up at the end of the week. Lee was back in his retirement center before Christmas, and we saw him every day. We enjoyed staying with Linda’s brother, Paul Leland, and Deb and Ashley Newby. Randy got to look through Paul’s family pictures and data.

We also were able to spend time with Lori and Michael at their home in Brookdale, and to visit Michael’s family in Petaluma on Christmas Day. Diane and Jim Herynk (from Topeka) met us for a day. On the way back to San Diego, we stopped and had Christmas with Tami and James in Long Beach.

Over Presidents’ Day weekend, we drove to the Phoenix area to visit Randy’s aunt Jan, uncle Ed Seaver, and cousin Joanie King. We stayed with Joanie and enjoyed her home and her lovable dogs. Ed and Jan moved into a very nice retirement center, and we had a great weekend sharing family history and stories.

During Easter vacation in April, we drove to Long Beach, Santa Cruz and San Jose again for the week, and stayed at Paul and Deb’s home again. Papa Lee was stronger, and we were able to take him on outings to lunch and to see friends.

We also celebrated Seaver family birthdays and holidays with Randy’s mom (pictured in the middle with Randy and Linda), brother Scott and Dawn, brother Stan and Holly, and Stan’s daughter Molly and her 4-year old son, Anthony.

Randy had four business trips to Baltimore during 2001. In June, Linda went along to sightsee while Randy attended a wind tunnel test at the University of Maryland; we stayed in Greenbelt MD, just north of DC. The test was delayed, so we were there for two weeks. We visited the FBI Building in DC, the Natural History Museum, Washington’s home at Mount Vernon, took a Potomac River cruise, and visited Annapolis. While Randy worked, Linda saw Baltimore Harbor, the National Zoo, and several other sights. We also visited Louise and Elizabeth Marshall in Alexandria, who are Linda’s cousins. They had information on the McKnew family, and were happy to share it. We enjoyed our two visits with them tremendously.

We flew up to San Jose in early August for a family reunion and to celebrate Papa Lee’s 90th birthday. Paul, Deb, Linda and Randy hosted a party for about 30 family and friends, and a wonderful time was had by all. We got to see many cousins and former neighbors – some that we hadn’t seen for 20 years. We all had a chance to tell stories about Papa Lee and how much he has meant to us.

After flying home, we drove to Long Beach so that we could baby sit our grand-hound, Walter, while Tami and James celebrated their fourth anniversary. We had fun playing with and walking Walter – all the females on the block adore him -- he's a chick magnet.

Lori and Michael celebrated their first anniversary in September. They are remodeling their home in Brookdale. Michael was promoted to be a project manager at UltraClean Technologies. Lori works at Sutro Investments in San Jose, and just passed an exam for a stock trader’s license. Their two indoor cats – Mira and Twosie – keep them busy in their redwood forest hideaway.

Tami and James moved to a larger house in the Belmont Shore area of Long Beach. Walter has a yard to play and snooze in, and his own window to watch the sidewalk traffic. Tami is teaching high school English at West Covina HS, and has added the AVID program and drug/ alcohol awareness groups. James continues to work at Seeley, where he is the webmaster and writes software.

Linda is teaching a fifth grade class this year at Montgomery Elementary in Chula Vista, enjoys being with friends and family, and likes to get away to the fitness center and angel hunting, shopping and relaxing.

Randy enjoys his engineering work at Goodrich Aerostructures Group – designing thrust reversers and doing analysis. He continued his genealogy research at the genealogy library and on the Internet.

We enjoy being with friends, family, and the church fellowship group, and attending the Lamb’s Players Theatre in Coronado, and the Shadow Mountain Saturday Night concert series with friends.

NOTE:  I am lucky to have Christmas letters since 1985 or so that were sent to friends and family.
