Research
Like a Pro: A Genealogists Guide
now Available in Print
Amazon
bestselling eBook is now a paperback
(Highland, Utah, May 22–) The print edition of Amazon
bestseller Research Like a Pro: A Genealogist's Guide is
now available for purchase. Authors Diana Elder, AG and Nicole Dyer
are the creators of FamilyLocket.com where they write educational
articles about discovering ancestors and offer professional genealogy
services.
Research Like a Pro: A Genealogist’s Guide is for
genealogists who are just starting out as well as researchers who
want to develop a disciplined research methodology. The book gives
readers a step-by-step method for applying the genealogy research
process to their research questions.
The eBook edition
of Research Like a Pro reached Amazon bestseller status for
the genealogy category when it was first released in February 2018.
Diana says:
I didn't set out to write a book. One year ago, I took my final
test in the process of becoming an Accredited Genealogist
professional through The International Commission for the
Accreditation of Professional Genealogists (ICAPGen). Once I was
awarded the credential in July of 2017, I wanted to share the
research process I had perfected as I brought my research skills up
to a professional level. I wrote a series of blog posts titled
"Research
Like A Pro."
Curious if the process would work as well for others as it had for
me, I started the Research Like A Pro Study Group. The researchers
ranged from those who had worked mainly on FamilySearch
and Ancestry to others who were graduates of the Boston University
genealogy program. By the end of the 12 week course, the success of
the study group members told me I had something that needed to be
shared. Nicole and I compiled the blogs posts and course material
into a single format and titled it Research Like A Pro: A
Genealogist's Guide. Available only as an e-book for the
first three months, we're excited to launch the print version.
Research Like
A Pro: A Genealogist's Guide is a step-by-step method that guides
readers through each part of the research process. Each chapter
includes examples from the author’s own genealogy research and ends
with a specific task. Readers learn how to form an objective,
review their research by creating a timeline analysis, construct a
locality guide to direct their research, create a plan, style source
citations, set up a research log to organize and track their
searches, and write a report detailing their findings and ideas for
future research. Work samples and templates give readers additional
tools.
With the purchase
of the book, either the electronic or print version, customers are
eligible to join the secret Research Like A Pro Facebook group. The
next Research Like a Pro study group begins in September, with eight
interactive webinar presentations, assignments, and feedback on each
assignment. The Research Like A Pro e-course will be released this
summer, for those who want to view all the webinars and work through
the assignments at their own pace.
Diana and Nicole
are giving away the first part of their Research Like a Pro e-course
to everyone who buys the print edition of Research Like a Pro
before Memorial Day Monday, May 28 at 11:59 pm PT. The rest of
the e-course will be released this summer. To receive the video, send
your receipt to Nicole@FamilyLocket.com, and on Tuesday, May 29, you
will receive the link to the webinar and the password to view it.
Part One of the Research Like a Pro e-course is about research
objectives. The first 7 parts correspond to a chapter in the book:
