4)  NOTES (with source citations as indicated in brackets):

Information about this family was obtained from the book A Genealogical History of the Rehoboth Branch of the Carpenter Family in America by Amos B. Carpenter, published in Amherst, Mass., by Press of Carpenter & Morehouse, in 1898[1].  It is apparent that the author obtained vital records information from the town records.  There is little biographical information about this family in the book.

Daniel Carpenter (1712-????) was the third son and fourth child (of six) of Solomon and Elizabeth (Tefft) Carpenter.  He was born 28 December 1712 in South Kingstown, Rhode Island[1-2].  The family may have lived on land near the Solomon Carpenter Lot cemetery on south Road in south Kingstown.

Daniel was married to Renewed Smith on 29 April 1733 in North Kingstown by Justice Daniel Coggeshall[1.3].  Renewed was the daughter of Ephraim and Margaret (Pearce) Smith.   They had at twelve children, all registered in the South Kingstown town records:

*  Jeremiah Carpenter (1734-1808), married 1754 Abigail Sheldon (1734-????).
*  Sarah Carpenter (1735-1800), married 1752 Nathaniel Gardner (1735-????).
*  Jonathan Carpenter (1739-????), married 1760 Marion Lock (1740-????).
*  Elizabeth Carpenter (1741-????), married 1760 Stephen Hazard (1730-1804).
*  Daniel Carpenter (1744-1823), married 1762 Susannah Congdon (1748-1818).
*  Renewed Carpenter (1746-1810), married 1764 Benjamin Stanton (1740-1787).
*  Margaret Carpenter (1749-1800), married 1768 Robert Rodman (1745-1806)
*  Mercy Carpenter (1752-????).
*  Hannah Carpenter (1754-1810), married 1774 George Armstrong (1752-????).
*  James Carpenter (1756-1824), married 1778 Anna Rodman (1757-1832).
*  Mary Carpenter (1759-1832), married 1783 Joseph Knowles (1760-1810).
*  Stephen Carpenter (1763-1835), married 1787 Susannah Champlin (1764-????).

Daniel's father, Solomon Carpenter, wrote his will on 30 April 1750, and it was proved in South Kingstown, Rhode Island on 18 October 1750[4].  In his will, Solomon bequeathed the following to his son Daniel Carpenter:

"And as to the rest and Residue of my Estate both Real and Personal be it of what Kind or Nature soever or Where soever the Same is or may be found I do Give Demise and Bequeath the same unto my well beloved Son Daniel Carpenter to him and his Heirs and Assigns for Ever.  He also named his "Well beloved Son Daniel Carpenter my whole and Sole Executor of this my Last will and Testament..."

There was no inventory or distribution so it is unknown what real and personal estate was received by Daniel.

A Daniel Carpenter was listed in South Kingstown in the 1777 Military Census for Rhode Island, but it is unknown if this was the present Daniel Carpenter - it may have been his son.  There are three entries for a Daniel Carpenter in the 1782 Tax List for South Kingstown, one is listed as Junior, another as "Un."  It is unknown if one of them was the present Daniel Carpenter.

Daniel Carpenter's death date is not known with certainty.  The last known record is the birth of his last child in 1763.  Some online family trees say his death date was 29 July 1784.

Daniel and his wife are probably buried in the Daniel Carpenter Lot cemetery on Gooseberry Road in South Kingstown.  The Find A Grave memorial notes that the stones are unmarked, and the memorial provides no death date[5].

There are no probate records for Daniel Carpenter in the South Kingstown town probate records.
