Surname Saturday -- EGGLESTON (England to colonial Massachusetts)

It's Surname Saturday, and I'm "counting down" my Ancestral Name List each week.

I am working in the 9th great-grandmothers by Ahnentafel number, and I am up to Ancestor #2173 who is Mary Eggleston (1614-????). [Note: the earlier great-grandmothers and 9th great-grandfathers have been covered in earlier posts.]

My ancestral line back through one generation in this EGGLESTON family line is:

1087.  Abiah Bartlett (1651-1723).

2172.  Edward Sanderson, born 1614 in England; died 19 February 1673 in Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States.  He married 16 October 1645 in Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States.
2173.  Mary Eggleston, born about 1614 in England.

Children of Edward Sanderson and Mary Eggleston are:
i. Jonathan Sanderson, born 15 September 1646 in Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States; died 03 September 1735 in Waltham, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States; married Abiah Bartlett 24 October 1669 in Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States.

iii. Ann Sanderson, born before 19 October 1654 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts, United States.
iv. Abigail Sanderson, born about 1656 in probably Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States; died 08 October 1693 in Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States; married Shubael Child 27 October 1687 in Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States; born 19 December 1665 in Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States.

v. Hannah Sanderson, born about 1658 in probably Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States; died 14 March 1743 in Weston, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States; married Richard Norcross 06 August 1695 in Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States; born 04 August 1660 in Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States.

The origin of Mary Eggleston is not positively known.  An article was published in The American Genealogist by:

*  Patricia Law Hatcher, "Enigma #31: The possible origin of Mary (Egellston) Sanderson of Watertown, Massachusetts," The American Genealogist, Volume 90 (2018) , page 51, 2018.

Her summary about Eggleston families was:

*  Mary is not the daughter of Bigod Eggleston of Settringham (Great Migration Begins)

*  Egelden children listed in Hercules list in 1614/5 not found in New England

*  Edmund Edenden of Cranbrook, Maidstone, and Tenterden, Kent, immigrated by 1637 to Scituate

*  Elizabeth (Bennett) Igguledon (later Patchen), widow of Stephen Iggleden, immigrated in 1638

*  Jane (--) (Eggleton) Britton (later Cole) immigrated by 1650 to Woburn

She argues for the fourth identification. Mary daughter of Elizabeth Bennett widow of Stephen Iggleden.

I have done no original research for this surname line.
