Monday Genea-Pourri - Week Ending 26 August 2019

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society DNA Interest Group meeting with 9 in attendance at the Library  I reported on DNA Central news, the Genetic Genealogy Facebook group, one of my theruLines that I judged wrong (but they are probably a DNA match through another line), surname searching on AncestryDNA, adding Notes to AncestryDNA matches, and my first attempt at the Leeds Method using AncestryDNA matches.  After the meeting, I emailed the group with Leeds Method articles and my chart.

2)  I moderated the San Diego Genealogical Society RootsMagic Users Group on Saturday with 9 in attendance.  We covered updating to Version 7.6, how to use Web Hints, searching Ancestry records, how to switch from FTM to RM using an Ancestry Member Tree, and more.

3)  Updated my RootsMagic 7 genealogy software to Version 7.6 and checked out the features to make sure they worked.  No problems found.

4)  Watched two Legacy Family Tree Webinars -- Basics of Land Platting - Part 2, by J. Mark Lowe, and Ten Tools for Genealogical Writing, by Harold Henderson.

5)  Wrote and posted a biography of 6th great-grandmother #503 Marie (LaTourette) Lewis (1734-1791) for my 52 Ancestors ancestor sketch on Friday.

7) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 32,178 of my RootsMagic persons with FSFT.

8)  I continue to use Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 54,393 persons in my RootsMagic file, and 108,535 source citations.   I TreeShared once this week updating 160 profiles, and I resolved 480 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 114,383 to be resolved, but I work on them weekly.

9)  Worked though my top 34 AncestryDNA Matches (50 cM and above) in a Leeds Method spreadsheet, and need to do more.
I also added Notes to more of my Common Ancestor matches, and added several of those lines to the RootsMagic tree.

10) Wrote 18 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which two were a press release.  The most popular post last week was
"The Pending Reinvention of Ancestry.com" Article on Counting Chromosomes with over 315 views.
