Monday Genea-Pourri - Week Ending 8 March 2021

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Attended the Chula Vista Genealogical Society Board Meeting on Wednesday on Zoom.  I reported on the Research Group, DNA Interest Group  and the March CVGS Newsletter.

2)  Write, edited, published and emailed the March 2021 issue of the CVGS Newsletter, "Family Tree Gazette."  This issue completes my 12th year of editorship.

3)  Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society DNA Interest Group meeting on Saturday, hosted and presented by Colin Whitney with about 36 in attendance.  Colin's presentation was "DNA Discoveries" with case studies from his own research.

4)  Attended today's Mondays With Myrt webinar.  We discussed the MyHeritage Deep Nostalgia app, Find A Grave missing photos, using obituaries from Find A Grave and newspapers, The Ancestor Hunt blog, Cyndi's List website, which genealogy software do people use and why, and the WikiTree Ancestor Explorer feature.

5)  Wrote and posted a biographical sketch of my 7th great-grandmother #583 Mary (Barron)  Harwood (1673-1758) of Chelmsford, Massachusetts. for my 52 Ancestors post on Friday.

7)  AncestryDNA added 96 new DNA matches this past week, with two new ThruLines, and  MyHeritage added 64 new DNA matches.   Reviewed the new DNA matches on  AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.  Added Notes to 2 more AncestryDNA matches with cM values, relationships and known shared ancestors, and added 1 ThruLines to RootsMagic.  Identified several more AncestryDNA accounts on MyHeritage to include in DNA Painter.

8)  There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 40,966 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 181).

9)  Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 62,123 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 171), and 134,281 source citations (up 532).   I TreeShared with my Ancestry Member Tree twice this week updating 359 profiles, and I resolved 1,474 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 148,872 to be resolved, but I work on them almost daily.

10)  Wrote 19 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which two were a press release -- the most viewed post last week was "Trying Out the MyHeritage Deep Nostalgia™ App Animation" with over 496 views.

11)  We are still fine here at the Genea-cave, hunkered down and not going out much in Week 50 of COVID-19 isolation.  I went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday, and it wasn't too busy.  I had a consult appointment with the root canal dentist on Monday (it's coming 23 March - I'm so excited!).  Other than that, it was stay-at-home on the computer doing (mainly) genealogy, eating, sleeping, cleaning, cooking, and a little yard work (like picking up leaves).  One highlight was seeing the great egret on the front lawn, which majestically soared into the sky.  We watched our first Padres Spring Training game too.
