Carringers in the News - William E. Carringer Dies in 1948 in Cleveland, Ohio

 It's time for another edition of "Carringers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Carringer (my mother's maiden surname) that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from The News-Herald [Franklin, Penn.] newspaper dated 21 June 1948:

The transcription of the article is:

This obituary provides a death date and place, an age, the names of his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but there is no information about his occupation or associations other than the church..

William Earl Carringer (1875-1948) was born 21 August 1875 in Deer Creek, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, the son of Joseph Elexander and Esther Louise (King) Carringer.  He married Fanny Bertha Latshaw (1876-1962) in  1898 in Mayfield, New York. He died 19 May 1948 in Cleveland, Ohio.  They had four children:

*  Jennie Adelle Carringer (1899-1974), married 1924 Harry Louis Groh (1900-1978).
*  Leora Pearl Carringer (1901-1982), married (1) 1919 Albert William Singleton (1896-1971); (2) 1928 Abel W. Haldeman (1902-1984).
*  Hazel May Carringer (1903-1995), married 1926 Frank Rogers (1900-????).
*  Earl Leroy Carringer (1906-1973), married 1946 Alma D. Reith (1911-1991).

I am a third cousin twice removed to  Wilbert H. Carringer.  Our common ancestors are my 4th great-grandparents Martin Carringer (1758-1835) and Maria Magdalena Hoax (1768-1851).

There are hundreds of Carringer "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person's obituary lists all of his family members but not an occupation.   I am glad that I can honor William Earl Carringer today.

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
