Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 25 October 2021

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Hosted the Chula Vista Genealogical Society DNA Interest Group Meeting on Wednesday on Zoom.  I reported on the MyHeritage updated "Theory of Family Relativity" feature, the AutoSegment feature on GEDmatch, the i4GG conference in April 2022, and the SCGS Genetic Genealogy Conference in August 2022.  I demonstrated working with my Theories of Family Relativity, adding the ancestral lines to my RootsMagic program,

2)  Participated in today's Mondays With Myrt Zoom webinar.  We discussed "What is the vest way to share family history" - I suggested planting my tree in every garden (AMT, FMP, MH, FSFT, WikiTree, Geni, etc.);  others suggested social media, websites and blogs;  We also discussed Chromebooks, and online trees such as rootstrust and RootsFinder; using Google Drive; My Natvig contact; Dave's Bassett newsletter, and more in the lightning round.

5)  AncestryDNA added 15 new DNA matches this past week, with one new ThruLines and  MyHeritage added 8 new DNA matches.   Reviewed the new DNA matches on  AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.  Added Notes to 3 more AncestryDNA match with cM values, relationships and known shared ancestors.

6)  There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 45,313 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 147).

7)  Used Web Hints and Record Matches from MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 66,629 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 182), and 143,132 source citations (up 51).   I did not TreeShare with my Ancestry Member Tree, and I resolved 659 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 158,539 to be resolved, but I work on them almost daily.

8)  Wrote 16 Genea-Musings blog posts the past week, of which two were a press release.  The most viewed post the past week was  Amanuensis Monday -- 1776 Deed of Norman Sever Selling Land in Westminster, Massachusetts to Joseph Spalding.  with over 291 views.

9)  Celebrated my birthday on Saturday by visiting with Linda, then driving to Huntington Beach for an overnight visit with daughter Tami and her family.  Went out to dinner, had birthday cake, went out to breakfast, watched football, and had fun talking to and being with the grandkids.  Came home on Sunday afternoon.  Put photos on Facebook - see https://www.facebook.com/Geneaholic/posts/10223163622613186.

10)  I am still fine here at the Genea-cave, hunkered down and not going out much after Week 84 of COVID-19 isolation.  Linda is at a memory care and skilled nursing facility in Chula Vista 7 miles from home and I visit her for an hour every day.  The physical therapists came twice last week and have her up and walking a bit with the walker.  The Aztecs won their game.   Watched the baseball playoff games,  I went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday. Other than that, it was stay-at-home on the computer doing (mainly) genealogy, plus eating, sleeping, laundry, cleaning, cooking, watching TV news and sports, reading books, napping, and a little yard work.
