Best of the Genea-Blogs - 27 March to 2 April 2022

Scores of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  21 Online Newspaper Research Do’s and Don’ts by Kenneth Marks on The Ancestor Hunt.

*  Missing Friends in the ‘Irish World’ Newspaper by Gena Philibert-Ortega on GenealogyBank Blog.

*   Kay Freilich, a genealogist for the ages by James Beidler on Roots & Branches.

*  Many Paths to Sources: City Directories by Cari Taplin on Genealogy Pants.

*  In Genealogy, Onomastics is Serious Business by Kathleen Brandt on a3Genealogy.

Karmic Roses by Jeff Record on Vita Brevis.

*  Using segment data to identify unknown DNA by Rachel King on DNA Painter Blog.

*  Using DNA for Clues with Colonial Ancestors: Quality vs Quantity by Heidi Mathis on Family Locket.

*  Really Last-Minute News about the 1950 US Census Release by Marian B. Wood on Climbing My Family Tree.

*  Whaling History, Melville's Moby Dick, and Rhode Island Genealogy (March 31, 2022) by John D. Tew on Filiopietism Prism.

*  How do you compare the holdings of the online genealogy database programs? by James Tanner on Genealogy's Star.

*  How to Export Family Tree Maker To Excel (With Pictures) by Margaret O'Brien on Data Mining DNA.

*  At Last ~ The Release of the 1950 U.S. Federal Census by Diane Gould Hall on Michigan Family Trails.

*  My Experience With the 1950 Census/ How I've found hard to find people by Annette Kapple on AK's Genealogy Research.

*  If Stone Could Speak: Koehler Family Life in Ellerstadt – 52 Ancestors #354 by Roberta Estes on DNAeXplained - Genetic Genealogy.

Here are pick posts by other geneabloggers this week:

*  Friday's Family History Finds by Linda Stufflebean on Empty Branches on the Family Tree.

*  Friday Fossicking 1st April 2022 by Crissouli on That Moment in Time.

* This Week's Creme de la Creme - April 2, 2022  by Gail Dever on Genealogy a la Carte.

Readers are encouraged to go to the blogs listed above and  read their articles, and add the blogs to your Favorites, Feedly, another RSS feed, or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I currently am reading posts from over 900 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.

Randy: Thank you so much for selecting my most recent post for your "best of." It is truly an honor to make your list. I have been hard at work on a Tew Genealogy and my blogging is a causality of the time I have devoted to the effort.
