Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.
1) Hosted the Chula Vista Genealogical Society monthly program was on Wednesday, and featured Pam Vestal presenting "What the Heck Does That Say? Overcoming the Challenge of Difficult Handwriting” with 60 in attendance. It was excellent!
2) Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society DNA Interest Group meeting on Saturday, where Kathy Fernandes presented "Third Party Analysis and Visualizations Tools."
3) Served as a panelist on today's Mondays With Myrt webinar. We discussed the new 1950 U.S. Census collections on NARA, Ancestry, MyHeritage and FamilySearch, plus discussing the NARA index and FamilySearch Indexing of the census.
4) Watched the NARA presentation on "1950 Census: Overview of Website Features" by Michael Knight and others on YouTube.
5) Published a genealogy biography of #309 Mary (--?--) Bathrick (1702?-1726?) of Cambridge, Massachusetts for the 52 Ancestors series.
6) Transcribed a probate record - 1863 Will of Jonathan Seaver (1793-1864) of Brookline, Massachusetts and Washington, D.C. - for the Amanuensis Monday series.
7) When the 1950 U.S. Census was released on Thursday night, I found my family and my grandparents family within 2 minutes of the release. I was indexed as Randilly Seaner. Monitored the census image releases over the weekend on Ancestry, myHeritage and FamilySearch. Searched for and found almost all of the target people on my list over the weekend.
8) AncestryDNA now has 39,710 DNA matches (up 92) this past week, with two new ThruLines. MyHeritageDNA now has 10,291 DNA matches (up 25), with no new Theories. Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe. Researched and added notes for 3 AncestryDNA matches and added 1 ThruLines to RootsMagic.
9) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 47,961 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 37).
10) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 69,519 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 47 from last week), and 144,598 source citations (up 54). I TreeShared 39 new or modified profiles with my Ancestry Member Tree, and I resolved 680 Ancestry Hints. My current Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 24,609 to be resolved, but I work on them almost daily.
11) Wrote 23 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which four were a press release. The most viewed post last week was Exploring the 1950 U.S. Census ED Finder Tool on Ancestry.com - Updated with over 409 views.
12) I am still fine here at the Genea-Cave, hunkered down and not going out much after Week 107 of COVID-19 semi-isolation. Linda is at a memory care and skilled nursing facility in Chula Vista 7 miles from home and I visit her for an hour every day - we usually play Uno and she wins about half the time. I went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday. I watched the Ukraine news occasionally, and parts of the NCAA March Madness and a Padres spring training game. Other than that, it was stay-at-home on the computer doing (mainly) genealogy, plus eating, sleeping, laundry, cleaning, cooking, watching TV news and sports, reading books, napping, and some yard work.
