Seavers in the News -- Luvina Gilleland Seaver Dies in 1963 in Marion, Iowa

Here is this week's edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from The [Cedar Rapids, Iowa]  Gazette newspaper dated 9 March 1963:

The transcription of the article is:

"Luvina Seaver

"Luvina Gilleland Seaver, widow of Robert Seaver and a Cedar Rapids resident 30 years, died at Marion Friday.  born in Michigan Sept. 3, 1880, she was a member of the Golden Age club and the Salvation Army.

"Surviving are three sons: Arno Gilliland of Warren, Ill., Theodore, of San Francisco and Clifford, of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, June Gardner of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Rena Craig of Cedar Rapids; a brother , Gordon Griffis of Estherville; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

"Services: Sheets funeral home, Tipton, at a time to be announced."

This obituary mainly includes the family members of Luvina Gilleland Seaver, including the names of her children and siblings, plus her residence and social affiliations,   

Luvina May Griffis was born 3 September 1880 in Banger, Michigan, the daughter of  Joseph Oscar and Elsa (Holloway) Griffis.  She married (1) Samuel Clifford Gilliland (1878-1917) on 14 May 1899 in Spirit Lake, Iowa.  They had eight children.  She married (2) Robert Albert Seaver (1872-1945) on 13 April 1929 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  They had no children.

Robert Albert Seaver (1872-1945) is probably a cousin of mine, but is descended from John and Susanna (Trumbull) Seaver of Massachusetts, and I don't know the parents of John Seaver (1778-1841).

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person's obituary contains many relatives.. I am glad that I can honor Luvina May (Gilleland) Seaver today.
