4)  NOTES (with source citations as indicated in brackets):

Rachel --?-- was born in about 1678, probably in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, to unknown parents[1].  Some online trees name her as the daughter of William Griggs or a Gifford, but there are no records that support this.  In the family sketch for Joseph Allen in the manuscript The Allen Family-Descendants of George Allen of England and Sandwich, Massachusetts by Jack McDonald, she is listed without a maiden name[1].

She married Joseph Allen (1667-1735) in about 1698[1,3], probably in Dartmouth, and they had five children, all born and recorded in Dartmouth:

*  Lidia Allen (1700-1772), married 1721 Increase Allen (1694-1771).
*  Phillis Allen, married 1724 Enos Gifford (1694-1769).
*  Joseph Allen (1704-1792), married 1725 Ruth Smith (1701-1775).
*  Rachel Allen (1708-1801, married 1733 Ichabod Kirby (1705-1793).
*  Elizabeth Allen (1710-1759), married 1730 Gideon Gifford (1706-????).

Rachel probably died before November 1721 when Joseph Allen married his second wife, Jennet Ray[2].  There is no burial record for Rachel (--?-) Allen.
