Seavers in the News -- Clair W. Seaver Dies in 1967 in Spokane, Washington

 Here is this week's edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Spokane [Wash.] Chronicle newspaper dated 20 October 1967, page 5:

The transcription of the article is:

"Clair W. Seaver

"Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Thornhill's Valley home for Clair W. (Barney) Seaver, a long-time Spokane resident, who died Tuesday in a Spokane hospital at the age of 70.

"The Rev. Eugene Muench of the Spokane Valley Methodist Church will officiate.  Burial will be at The Pines.

"Born in Spokane, Mr. Seaver, a papermaker, worked for the Inland Empire Paper Co. from 1918 until 1922.  At that time, he and his wife moved to Niagara Falls, where he worked until their return to Spokane in 1946.  He again worked for the Inland Empire Paper Co. until his retirement in 1962.

"Mr. Seaver attended the Methodist church, and was a life member of the Canadian Masonic Lodge.

"He is survived by hi s wife, Harriet, at the home, E11723 Alki; two sons, James, Spokane, and Donald C., Coulee Dam; a sister, Dora Phelps. Spokane, six grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews."

This obituary identifies his age, residence, death date and place, spouse's, children's and sibling's names, occupation, some work history, and church association information.

Clair Wilbur "Barney" Seaver was born 17 September 1897 in Spokane, Washington, the son of James Lyman and Sarah Ann (Green) Seaver.  He married Harriet Ruth Wade (1898-1984) on 28 June 1919 in Spokane.  Clair died 17 October 1967 in Spokane, Washington.  He and Harriet had two children:

*  Donald Clair Seaver (1925-2014), married 1953 Constance Mae Rosecrans (1923-2007) in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

*  James Allen Seaver (1927-1982), married 1953 Betty Jean Finch (1930-????).

Clair Wilbur Seaver is my 8th cousin two times removed, with the common Seaver ancestor being Robert Seaver (1608-1683).

 

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person leaves home and returns years later.  I am glad that I can honor Clair Wilbur Seaver today.
