Randy and Gordon on School Safety Patrol -- Post 789 of (Not So) Wordless Wednesday

I can't help it, I can't do a wordless post! This is one of my favorite photographs:

This is a photograph from about 1955 showing my best friend, Gordon MacLennan, and myself in our school safety patrol uniforms at Brooklyn Elementary School in San Diego.  I can date it because I finally got eyeglasses in 6th grade.  I was in the school safety patrol, with family friend, Police Officer Dick Tazelaar as our trainer, all during 4th, 5th an 6th grades.  We patrolled the corners of Fern Street and A Street stopping traffic when needed with our signs on Fern Street, a two lane north/south street which was relatively busy.  We worked before school, after school, and during recess periods because there was a playground kitty-corner from the school.  I was a sergeant in 5th grade with a whistle to signal putting in and taking back the stop signs, and the Supply Sergeant (2nd in command to the Lieutenant) in 6th grade.

The sweaters were red, and the caps were yellow.  I tried to colorized the photograph using the MyHeritage Photo tools, but the red sweaters were black and the yellow caps were grayish.

This photograph is all part of our family history.
