Website Searches for Historical German Place Names

 I received this information from Paul Burnham recently:

==============================================

I have created a free website (HREplaces.com) where you can enter the name of a German village and a year (between roughly 1600 and 1806) and it will return the correct geography (equivalent of township, county, state, and country) for the village in the selected year. Coverage is sparse at the moment—I have data only for the Anhalt, Halberstadt, Lippe, and Schaumburg regions. I plan to add more, but it will be slow going (Germany is about the toughest place to do this).

Here are two screen captures from the website:

I’m trying to get the word out about the website so I can gauge how much interest there is in this product. I could spend the rest of my life on this project, but if nobody cares, why bother.  Please contact Paul at HREplaces@gmail.com.

If this project of Paul's comes to fruition, it will be a great help to German researchers, in my opinion.

Paul would appreciate feedback on the website - his email is above.
