Findmypast Friday: Caribbean Collection Expanded This Week

I received this information from Findmypast today:

                  ===========================================

Findmypast expands their Caribbean collection this week

Even more records for those researching Caribbean ancestry have been added this Findmypast Friday

Caribbean Association Oath Rolls, 1696

New this week, these transcriptions include names of White colonial settlers who swore allegiance to William III in 1696. You’ll find records from Barbados and the Leeward Islands, including Antigua, Montserrat, St Kitts, Nevis and Bermuda. Details may include a name, their island of residence, and their organization.

Barbados Births & Baptisms 1637-1891

More records have been added into this existing collection for the years 1678-1679. You should find an ancestor’s name, birth or baptism date, a birthplace, and usually the names of both parents. Some even include witnesses.

Montserrat, Methodist Marriages 1820-1841

This brand new and exclusive collection includes some of the earliest-known Methodist marriages from Montserrat, and include those of enslaved and freed people. You’ll normally find a residence and occupations within these records, and all couples in this index are either Black or mixed-race.

Rabbit Holes With Randy - Updating My AncestryDNA Match Table List

This rabbit hole took some time, but wasn't very deep.

I wrote about Greg Clarke's AncestryDNA Match Table Maker tool in Rabbit Holes With Randy - Updating my DNA Match Lists (26 January 2022) and in Downloading My AncestryDNA Match List With Google Sheets (17 March 2021).

I downloaded the Ancestry DNA Match Table Maker again from the website   https://landing.mailerlite.com/webforms/landing/z4i7v1 and the Google Sheets form will be emailed to you.  I noted that it is Version 1.10 now.  I followed the directions on the form and made a copy, and renamed it, so that I could use and edit the form. Then I went into my AncestryDNA Common Ancestor match list and copied the whole list (using Ctrl-A) and followed the directions on the form using the "Newest w Recognize btn" sheet and copied the AncestryDNA data into Cell A6 (using "Shift-Ctrl-V).

The results  at the top of the sheet is below:

Note that the results start on Row 3 of the spreadsheet.  I scrolled down to the last row with data in it on line 476:

So I now have 474 AncestryDNA matches with a Common Ancestor.  It was 453 back in January 2022 and 417 in March 2021.

I also found that I don't have a Note on four of the matches, so I need to go into AncestryDNA and write a note about the relationship, cM value, and common ancestor from the ThruLines provided.

This took me awhile to get everything correct, but I was successful!

Where are my carrot flavored ice cream bars?

Treasure Chest Thursday -- 1704 Marriage Record for William Hawkins and Elizabeth Arnold in Providence, Rhode Island

It's time to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history and genealogy musings for Treasure Chest Thursday.

The treasure today is the 1704 marriage record of William Hawkins and Elizabeth Arnold in Providence, Rhode Island:

The marriage record is the third one on the Hawkins list:

The transcription of this record is:

"HAWKINS William Jr. and Elizabeth Arnold, Dec. 14, 1704"

The source citation for this record is:

James N. Arnold, Vital Record of Rhode Island, 1636-1850, First Series, Births, Marriages and Deaths : a Family Register for the People (Providence, R.I.: Narragansett Historical Publishing Co., 1891-1912), "Volume 2: Providence County Birth, Marriages, Deaths," page 7, Elizabeth Arnold and William Hawkins marriage entry, 14 December 1704.

This record is a Derivative Source, with Primary Information and Direct Evidence of the marriage of William Hawkins and Elizabeth Arnold,  The Original Source is probably a Providence, Rhode Island book that is not now extant online.

William Hawkins (1679-1712) was born in Providence, the son of William and Lydia (Ballou) Hawkins.  He died on 8 October  1712 in Providence.  He married Elizabeth Arnold (1684-1758) on 14 December 1704.  She was the daughter of Eleazer and Eleanor (Smith) Arnold.  They had five children born between 1705 and 1713.

William and Elizabeth (Smith) Hawkins are my 7th great-grandparents.  I am descended through their daughter Ruth Hawkins (1710-1789), who married Nathaniel Wade (1708-1754) in 1731 in Scituate, Rhode Island.

The CVGS Board Elected Officers for 2007-2008-- Post 739 of (Not So) Wordless Wednesday

I can't help it, I can't do a wordless post! This is one of my favorite photographs:

In December 2006, I was elected president of the Chula Vista Genealogical Society, and installed at the annual Holiday party held at Chula Vista South Library on 18 December 2006.  From the left, the people in the photo are:

*  John Finch - our  2005-2006 President.

*  Me - the newly installed President for 2007-2008.

*  Virginia Taylor - the Program chair and future President.

*  Wanda Brock - I think the incoming Treasurer or Membership Chair..

*  I've forgotten - perhaps Barbara Brown, the Membership Chair.

*  Connie Ottinger - the Secretary during my two years as President.

This is all part of our family history!

Seavers in the News -- 1968 Obituary of Charles H. Seaver (1887-1968) of Vermont

Here is this week's edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Rutland [Vt.] Daily Herald newspaper dated 10 May 1968, page 15:

The transcription of the article is:

"CHARLES H. SEAVER

"Proctorsville -- Burial services for Charles H. Seaver, 82, who died Wednesday in Seal Beach, Calif., will be conducted Saturday at 1:30 p.m. n Hillcrest Cemetery here by the Rev. Lewis Taylor, pastor of the St. James Methodist Church.

"Mr. Seaver was born March 14, 1886 in Cavendish, son of John R. and Hattie J. (Clark) Seaver.

"Mr. Seaver was a retired salesman for the Jones & Lamson Machine Co. of Springfield.

"He is survived by his wife, the former Minnie Stafford of Proctorsville;  a son, Volney Seaver of Urbans, Ohio; a grandson; a great-granddaughter, a sister Mrs. Chivey J. Chase of Charlestiown, N.H. and nephews."

The source citation is:

"Charles H. Seaver," Rutland [(Vt] Daily Herald, Friday, 10 May 1968, page 15, column 8, Charles H.  Seaver obituary; Newspapers.com   (https://www.newspapers.com : accessed 17 October 2022).

This obituary identifies his name, age, implied death date and place, spouse's name, parent's names, children's names, some work history, a church organization, but no cause of death information.

Charles H. Seaver was born 14 March 1887 in Cavendish, Vermont, the son of John R. and Hattie J. (Clark) Seaver.  He died 7 May 1968 in Seal Beach, California.  He married Minnie B. Stammers (1887-1982) on 19 October 1906 in Cavendish, Vermont.  They had one son:

*  Volney John Seaver (1908-1980), married Adelle Edyth Weiner (1910-1999) on 1 May 1934 in Girard, Pennsylvania.

Charles H. Seaver (1887-1968) is my fifth cousin four times removed.  Our common Seaver ancestor is my 8th great-grandfather Shubael Seaver (1640-1729).

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a man had a relatively small family.  I am glad that I can honor Charles H. Seaver today.

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.

Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 17 October 2022

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Hosted and moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society Research Group Meeting on Wednesday on Zoom.  I discussed the recent genealogy industry news (not much), the WikiTree symposium, and RootsTech 2023 opportunities.  Also, my own work - finding the Martin Carringer farm site, genealogy file maintenance, and the Best of the Genea-Blogs series.

2)  Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society British Isles Interest Group Meeting on Zoom on Saturday.  Colin Whitney presented "Early Modern Records of the BI."

3)  Attended the Whittier Area Genealogical Society (WAGS) on Saturday to watch Jane Neff Rollins' presentation on "A Picture Is Worth 1000 Words: Dating Your Early 20th Century Photographs."

4)  Published a genealogy biography for the 52 Ancestors series for 7th great-grandmother #721 Mary (Dolberry) Wade (1677-a1720) of Boston and Medford, Massachusetts, and Providence, Rhode Island.

5) Transcribed a probate record document - 1859 Will of Job W. Seaver of Westminster, Mass.  - for the Amanuensis Monday series.

6) AncestryDNA now has 41,105 DNA matches (up 48 from 10 October) for me today, with eight  new ThruLines (but 5 of them are wrong IMHO).  Added Notes to 8 of them, and added 3 lines to  RootsMagic.   MyHeritageDNA now has 10,783 DNA matches (up 15 from 10 October) for me, with no new Theories.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

7)  Updated my AncestryDNA match list for Common Ancestors using Greg Clarke's tool.  I now have 473 ThruLines but some are wrong, and it doesn't capture descendants of common ancestors obtained from other DNA test sites.

8)  The RootsMagic links to the FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families has quit working. I have matched 48,480 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 0).

9) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 70,076 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 15 from 10 October), and 145,423  source citations (up 5). I TreeShared 80 new or modified profiles with my Ancestry Member Tree, and I resolved 155  Ancestry Hints. My Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 175,617 to be resolved, but I work on them several times a week.  My MyHeritage family trees have 200,305 Record Matches in 286 sources and I work on them occasionally.

10) Wrote 15 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which two were a press release. The most viewed post last week was
Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 10 October 2022 with over 192 views.  Genea-Musings had about 10,100 views last week.

11)  Real life:  This is week 136 since COVID restrictions started.  Linda is at a memory care and skilled nursing facility in Chula Vista 7 miles from home and I visited her six times last week.   I went grocery shopping on Monday and Friday.   I watched the Padres games every day they played and we beat the Dodgers 3 out of 4, to win the Divisional Series playoffs.  Now we play Philadelphia for the National League Championship.
