Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 17 October 2022

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Hosted and moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society Research Group Meeting on Wednesday on Zoom.  I discussed the recent genealogy industry news (not much), the WikiTree symposium, and RootsTech 2023 opportunities.  Also, my own work - finding the Martin Carringer farm site, genealogy file maintenance, and the Best of the Genea-Blogs series.

2)  Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society British Isles Interest Group Meeting on Zoom on Saturday.  Colin Whitney presented "Early Modern Records of the BI."

3)  Attended the Whittier Area Genealogical Society (WAGS) on Saturday to watch Jane Neff Rollins' presentation on "A Picture Is Worth 1000 Words: Dating Your Early 20th Century Photographs."

4)  Published a genealogy biography for the 52 Ancestors series for 7th great-grandmother #721 Mary (Dolberry) Wade (1677-a1720) of Boston and Medford, Massachusetts, and Providence, Rhode Island.

5) Transcribed a probate record document - 1859 Will of Job W. Seaver of Westminster, Mass.  - for the Amanuensis Monday series.

6) AncestryDNA now has 41,105 DNA matches (up 48 from 10 October) for me today, with eight  new ThruLines (but 5 of them are wrong IMHO).  Added Notes to 8 of them, and added 3 lines to  RootsMagic.   MyHeritageDNA now has 10,783 DNA matches (up 15 from 10 October) for me, with no new Theories.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

7)  Updated my AncestryDNA match list for Common Ancestors using Greg Clarke's tool.  I now have 473 ThruLines but some are wrong, and it doesn't capture descendants of common ancestors obtained from other DNA test sites.

8)  The RootsMagic links to the FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families has quit working. I have matched 48,480 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 0).

9) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 70,076 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 15 from 10 October), and 145,423  source citations (up 5). I TreeShared 80 new or modified profiles with my Ancestry Member Tree, and I resolved 155  Ancestry Hints. My Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 175,617 to be resolved, but I work on them several times a week.  My MyHeritage family trees have 200,305 Record Matches in 286 sources and I work on them occasionally.

10) Wrote 15 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which two were a press release. The most viewed post last week was
Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 10 October 2022 with over 192 views.  Genea-Musings had about 10,100 views last week.

11)  Real life:  This is week 136 since COVID restrictions started.  Linda is at a memory care and skilled nursing facility in Chula Vista 7 miles from home and I visited her six times last week.   I went grocery shopping on Monday and Friday.   I watched the Padres games every day they played and we beat the Dodgers 3 out of 4, to win the Divisional Series playoffs.  Now we play Philadelphia for the National League Championship.
