Best of the Genea-Blogs - 14 to 20 June 2015

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Global Family Reunion: A Recap by Emma on the MyHeritage Blog.  Emma shows many photos and highlights from the GFR 2015.

*  Thank You, BLM! by Judy G. Russell on The Legal Genealogist blog.  Judy describes the new tools on the BLM GLO website.

*  Subscription Switcheroo and Switcheroo Follow-Up by Loretta Gillespie on the Barking Up the Wrong Tree blog.  Loretta has the full story on the new Ancestry.com subscription rates.

*  Breaking a Brick Wall by JL Beeken on the JLog blog.  JL finally found clues to a great-grandfather.

*  Analyze or Else! by Harold Henderson on the BCG Springboard News and Notes blog.  Harold analyzes several records seeking a birth date.

*  DNA Testing Strategy for Adoptees and Persons With Uncertain Parentage by Roberta J. Estes on the DNAeXplained -- Genetic Genealogy blog.  Excellent post about this important topic.

*  Family:  Planning a Roots Trip? by Schelly Talalay Dardashti on the MyHeritage Blog.  Schelly lays out how to plan a genealogy road trip.

*  A Visit to the University of Rhode Island Library by Diane Boumenot on the One Rhode Island Family blog.  Diane found cemetery records at this college library.  She has all the fun!

*  6 Types of Info Found in Your Ancestor's Will by Lisa Lisson on the Lisa Lisson blog.  This is a useful list.

*  Scenes From IGHR, Samford by Denise Levenick on The Family Curator blog.  Denise gives us a photo review of her Samford week.

*  Twists and Turns Can Lead to Great Genealogy Surprises by Lorine McGinnis Schulze on the Olive Tree Genealogy Blog.  Lorine solved a long-standing research problem with a small clue.

*  How to Do a Pull-out-all-the-stops Pre-1916 Death Record Search in Chicago by Cynthia on the ChicagoGenealogy: Research Insights from Study and Serendipity.  Cynthia has a superb list of steps to answer the question.

*  Breaking Through the 1870 Brick Wall:  The Significance of the Freedmen's Bureau Records by Thom Reed on the FamilySearch Blog.  Thom highlights this new database on FamilySearch.

*  I Was Wrong (It Happens) by Michele Simmons Lewis on the Ancestoring blog.  Michele reviews the naming policies on Find A Grave.  I think she's right...

*  Old Dogs, New Tricks by Tony Proctor on the Parallax View blog.  Wise words from Tony here on theories, hypotheses, conclusions, evidence and more.

*  Let's Be Realistic by Israel Pickholtz on the All My Foreparents blog.  Israel has a realistic outlook on DNA testing based on his experiences to date.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1580 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.
