Monday Genea-Pourri - 24 June 2019

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society DNA Interest Group meeting on Wednesday, with 12 in attendance.  I discussed the Living DNA site, highlighted news from DNA Central and the Genetic Genealogy Tips and Techniques Facebook group, and passed around articles from the SCGS DNA Day syllabus. The attendees described their DNA-related activities over the last month.

2)  Participated in the Mondays With Myrt webinar today.  I showed off my socks with the grandkids photos on them, Dave talked about his Robison gravestone, which led to discussion about name spellings, Myrt talked about Bill West post about MyTreeTags, Gary described how he finds the Ancestry dbid in the Catalog, we discussed Ancestry Hints, Graham talked about the Family History Fair at York, Yvonne discussed the article about DNA forensics in Canada, and Liv mentioned migration within Norway.

3)  Linda and I went to Huntington Beach on Wednesday night to attend Audrey's 5th grade graduation on Thursday and Lauren's 8th grade graduation on Friday.  Tami gave us both socks with the kids photos on them:

We returned home on Friday night.

4)  Moderated the San Diego Genealogical Society RootsMagic Users Group on Saturday with 10 in attendance.  I discussed the RootsMagic 8 review I had with Bruce Buzbee, and answered questions about how to use TreeShare Web Hints, how to preserve memories in RootsMagic in notes and media, how to see the map of a place, how to enter an out-of-wedlock birth, how to deal with an adoption, and how to indicate an unverified parent situation.

6)  Wrote and posted a biography of 6th great-grandmother #479 Elizabeth (Bloodgood) Gach (1702-1770) of Woodbridge, New Jersey  for my 52 Ancestors post on Friday.

7) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and other ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 31,295 of my RootsMagic persons with FSFT.

8)  I continue to use Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 53,829 persons in my RootsMagic file, and 105,726 source citations.   I TreeShared once this week updating 118 profiles, and I resolved 558 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 111,863 to be resolved, but I try to work on them weekly.

9) Wrote 17 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which one was a press release.  The most popular post last week was
Seavers in the News -- Rev. Norman Seaver Dies in Rutland, Vt. in 1915 with over 410 views.
