Monday Genea-Pourri - Week Ending 20 April 2020

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Hosted a Zoom meeting with Chula Vista Genealogical Society members for the monthly DNA Interest Group on Wednesday.  We had 12 attendees.  I demonstrated using the updated Shared centiMorgan chart and the updated DNA Painter tool.  Since we had a number of new attendees, I presented an Overview of the features of the different autosomal DNA test companies.  During the discussion, we discussed accessing AncestryDNA ThruLines from your tree and from your DNA matches.  In the second hour, the attendees discussed their DNA successes and challenges.

2)  Participated in today's Mondays With Myrt on Zoom.  We discussed my Facebook photo from the home movie digitized by Forever, Liv's 3rd great-grandfather's photo, town and county name changes, the FamilySearch wiki articles and maps, the JewishGen website, Pat's DNA match and photo, AncestryDNA ThruLines, MyHeritageDNA, Hilary's Google Calendar, and Zoom meetings.

3)  Watched The General Land Office Website—A Genealogical Gem webinar by Rick Sayre.

4)  Wrote and posted a biographical sketch of 7th great-grandmother #537 Mary (Bennet) Knowlton (1686-1717) for my 52 Ancestors biographical sketch on Friday.

6)  Found many Seaver baptism records on Ireland collections on Ancestry.com, and helped an email correspondent work with them.  Added quite a few of the baptism records to my Seaver study in RootsMagic.

7)  Added Notes to about 20 more AncestryDNA matches with cM values, relationships and known common ancestors.  Added three AncestryDNA ThruLines to the RootsMagic family tree database.  Reviewed new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.  Added the DNA Match icon to about 100 of my AncestryDNA matches in my tree.

8) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 35,314 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 100).

9)  Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 57,033 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 102) , and 119,155 source citations (up 227).   I TreeShared with my Ancestry Member Tree two times this week updating 308 profiles, and I resolved 1,312 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 128,925 to be resolved, but I work on them almost daily.

10)  Wrote 20 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which two were a press release.  The most popular post last week was Dear Randy: How Do You Keep Track of What You Write or Post? with over 333 views.

11)  We are still fine here at the Genea-cave, hunkered down and not going out much.  I went to the grocery store on Tuesday and Saturday and it wasn't too busy.  I took Linda for a wheelchair ride around the neighborhood in the sun on Thursday.  We drove around Chula Vista on Friday for an hour.  I watched the church choir and pastor's sermon on YouTube on Sunday.  The weeds are growing, and Linda's Cecil Bruner rose bush is blooming.  Other than that, it was stay-at-home on the computer doing genealogy.
