Seavers in the News -- Dr. Alfred Drew Seaver Dies in Brooklyn in 1934

It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Times Union [Brooklyn, N.Y.] newspaper dated 25 September 1934:

The transcription of the article is:

"DR. ALFRED D. SEAVER

Was Dental Practitioner in This Borough Since 1888

"Dr. Alfred Drew Seaver, 68, dental practitioner in Brooklyn since 1888, when he was graduated from the New York College of Dentistry, died Sunday in Methodist Hospital after an illness of several months.  He lived at 134 Park pl., where he also maintained his office.

"Dr. Seaver was born in New Jersey.  He was a former member of the Montauk, Crescent Athletic-Hamilton and other clubs in Brooklyn, but resigned some years ago.  At the time of his death, he was affiliated with the Second District Dental Society.

"Surviving are his wife, Anna; a daughter, Mrs. Charles Ott, of Montclair, N.J., and a son, Drew Seaver.  Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 8 P.M. in the home.  Burial in Moravian Cemetery will take place Thursday."

This obituary provides a death date (implied as Sunday, 23 September 1934), an age and birth state, the spouse's name, and the married name of a daughter and a son.

I had Alfred Drew Seaver (1866-1934) in my RootsMagic database.  He was born 17 September 1866 in Newark, New Jersey, the son of Joseph Alfred and Mary Elizabeth (Haulenbeck) Seaver.  He married Anna Lambertson (1866-1945) in 1891 in Brooklyn, and they had three children:

*  Serena Seaver (1893-1970), married (1) 1917 Emory Gale Felton (1892-1918), and (2) 1924 Charles James Ogg (1894-1982).
*  Drew Seaver (1897-1968), married 1945 Julia Pauline Hull (1900-1972).
*  Spencer William Seaver (1899-1903).

Alfred Drew Seaver is my 7th cousin, 3 times removed.  The common ancestors are Robert Seaver (1608-1683) and Elizabeth Ballard (1616-1657).

There are over 9,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and some people serve their communities.  I am glad that I can honor Dr. Alfred Drew Seaver today.

You never know when a descendant will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors, or will provide more information about them to me.
