Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:
1) Hosted the Chula Vista Genealogical Society General Meeting on Wednesday in a Zoom meeting featuring presenter Hal Bookbinder on "Born in St. Louis, naturalized in Newark, Why?", with 24 attendees. This presentation highlighted immigration and naturalization laws, practices and records over the last two centuries, including the story of Hal's grandmother's naturalization.
2) Participated in Mondays With Myrt today. We discussed my upcoming OCCGS presentations on 5 September on Zoom, using chat or Q&A on Zoom, Ancestry member trees, GEDCOM, genealogy desktop software vs. online trees, software capabilities, why use desktop software, the Online Research Assistant extension, and more. The recording should be on DearMyrtle's YouTube channel soon.
3) Watched one Family Tree Webinar -- "How to Use MyHeritage DNA Results to Enhance Your Family Tree," by Michelle Leonard. Excellent!!!
4) Wrote and posted a biographical sketch of 7th great-grandmother #555 Abigail (Smith) Fisher (1686-1725) for my 52 Ancestors biographical sketch on Friday.
5) Transcribed the 1735 Bond and Order to Distribute the estate of John Fisher (1677-1727) of Medfield, Mass. for Amanuensis Monday. The real estate totaled £384, and the order identified his daughter as my 6th great-grandmother Abigail Plimpton.
6) Added one AncestryDNA ThruLines to my RootsMagic tree, and added Notes to 7 more AncestryDNA matches with cM values, relationships and known common ancestors. Ancestry added 145 new DNA Matches this past week, and MyHeritage added 25 new DNA matches. Reviewed new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.
7) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 37,131 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 98).
8) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 58,750 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 44), and 125,820 source citations (up 115). I TreeShared with my Ancestry Member Tree two times this week updating 136 profiles, and I resolved 483 Ancestry Hints. I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 133,461 to be resolved, but I work on them almost daily.
9) Wrote 15 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which one was a press release. The most popular post last week was Tombstone Tuesday -- Elizabeth (Treat) Snow in Bridge Road Cemetery in Eastham, Mass. with over 240 views.
10) Edited and saved the two presentations and handouts for my OCCGS Zoom webinar on Saturday, 5 September, at 10 a.m. PDT. The topics are "Using FamilySearch Digital Microfilm" and "Probate Records - My Favorite Record Type." See https://www.geneamusings.com/2020/08/free-orange-county-california.html
11) Daughter Lori and her family are still with us, and we are enjoying her cooking, her energy, and the kitten. Linda has been able to go swimming in her friend;'s pool with Lori and the boys. Their house in Brookdale did not burn down, but there is a problem with the water quality and possible electricity issues also. The fire burned to within a half mile of their home.
12) We are still fine here at the Genea-cave, hunkered down and not going out much. I went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday, and it wasn't too busy. Other than that, it was stay-at-home on the computer doing genealogy, eating, sleeping and a little yard work, watching the Padres games, and reading an ebook on my laptop. My Padres are now 21-15 and just traded for 3 experienced players.
