Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 13 September 2021

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Hosted and led the Chula Vista Genealogical Society Research Group Meeting on Wednesday on Zoom with 35 in attendance.  We discussed where our grandparents were born, the CVGS newsletter, Ancestry acquiring GeneaNet, Ancestry releasing more of the Freedmen's Bureau collection, the new POW/MIA records at Fold3, free classes at FamilySearch, and the gree Webtember classes at MyHeritage and Family Tree Webinars.  I also shared my Genealogy Pot-pourri  posts as a way to keep track of what I do each week.  In the second hour, several attendees asked research questions, and provided answers and comments.

2)  Attended the two sessions of the San Diego Genealogical Society monthly program on Saturday.  The featured speaker was Donna Moughty on "Strategies for Researching Your English Ancestors" and "Irish Civil Registration and Church Records."

3)  Participated in today's Mondays With Myrt webinar.  We discussed "how do you read blogs" (I use Feedly), my MyHeritage descendants chart, Family Chartmasters, WikiTree draft saving, England churchyard graves, and Q&A.

7)  AncestryDNA added 1 new DNA matches this past week, with no new ThruLines and  MyHeritage added 5 new DNA matches.   Reviewed the new DNA matches on  AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.  Added Notes to 0 more AncestryDNA match with cM values, relationships and known shared ancestors, and added no new ThruLines to RootsMagic.

8)  There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 44,423 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 209).

9)  Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 65,615  persons in my RootsMagic file (up 235), and 142,082 source citations (up 410).   I TreeShared with my Ancestry Member Tree two times the past week updating 351 profiles, and I resolved 1041 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 157,752 to be resolved, but I work on them almost daily.

10)  Wrote 15 Genea-Musings blog posts the past week, of which one was a press release.  The most viewed post the past week was Amanuensis Monday -- 1797 Deed of Administrators of Estate of Dr. Moses Hill Eleazer Perry Selling Land in Medfield, Massachusetts to Aaron Smith  with over 273 views.

11)  I am still fine here at the Genea-cave, hunkered down and not going out much after Week 78 of COVID-19 isolation.  Linda is at a memory care and skilled nursing facility in Chula Vista 7 miles from home and I visit her for an hour every day.  The physical therapists came twice last week and have started more rehab exercises.  The Padres season continues, and the Padres are now 74-68 (1-4 the past week).  I went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday. Two friends took me out to lunch on Friday at Farmer's Table in Chula Vista -- it was wonderful being with friends.  Other than that, it was stay-at-home on the computer doing (mainly) genealogy, plus eating, sleeping, laundry, cleaning, cooking, watching TV news and sports, reading books, napping, and a little yard work.
