Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 30 January 2023

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Hosted and moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) General Meeting on Wednesday in a Zoom meeting with about 63 attendees.  The program speaker was Diana Elder on "Research Planning for the Win: Next Steps for Breaking Down a Brick Wall"

2)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for #742 7th great-grandfather Samuel Gray (1682-1712) of Plymouth, Massachusetts and Little Compton, Rhode Island for the 52 Ancestors series.

3)  Transcribed a probate record for the Amanuensis Monday series -- 1855 Will of William Seaver (1779-1869) of Taunton, Massachusetts.

4)  Added two more family stories in StoryWorth, including biographies of my maternal grandparents. I have written 16 stories so far.

5)  Posted another six generations descendants report for Simon Wade (1767-1857) and Phebe Horton (1772-1820) of Rhode Island and Connecticut.

6)  Grandson Logan asked me to help with information about the immigration of one of his ancestors in the late 1800s or early 1900s.  I chose his 2nd great-grandfather, Leone Morandi (1894-1979) of Bagni di Lucca, Italy and Petaluma, California.  After doing the research, I wrote a genealogical sketch based on the research data, and then answered the ten interview questions. See details in Rabbit Holes With Randy -- Helping My Grandson With an Immigration Interview.

7) AncestryDNA now has 41,859 DNA matches (up 68 from 23 January) for me today, with one new ThruLines.   I added two Notes to my matches.  MyHeritageDNA now has 11,028 DNA matches (up 33 from 23 January) for me, with no new Theories.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

8)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 8 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 48,955 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 81).

9) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 70,448 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 101 since 23 January), and 145,620  source citations (up 30). I TreeShared 50 new or modified profiles with my Ancestry Member Tree, and I resolved 318  Ancestry Hints. My Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 172,611 to be resolved, but I work on them several times a week.  I resolved no MyHeritage Record Matches, leaving 162,207 Record Matches in 285 sources and I work on them occasionally.

10) Wrote 16 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which two were a press release. The most viewed post last week was
Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- What Genealogy Resources Are You Currently Using? with over  124 views.  Genea-Musings had about 10,100 views last week.

11)  Real life:  This is week 151 since COVID restrictions started.   I stayed home except for visiting Linda every day.  Linda is at a memory care and skilled nursing facility in Chula Vista 7 miles from home. Saw longtime friends Gil and Lynda one afternoon - fun to catch up!  Went grocery shopping on Monday and Friday.  Finished my C.J. Box book,  Wolf Pack, and started the David Baldacci book, A Gambling Man. Watched the NFL playoff games and a San Diego State basketball game.
