Seavers in the News -- James D. Seaver Dies in 1973 in Massachusetts

  Here is this week's edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from The Boston [Mass.] Globe newspaper dated 18 April 1973, page 35:

The transcription of the article is:

"SEAVER -- Of Lexington, April 17. James D. of 37 Somerset rd., husband of Hilda (Prince), Hopewell, Seaver, father of Mrs. Margaret Carey of Scituate, Robert B. of Cooperstown, N.Y., Mrs. Sally Johnson of Naples, Fla, Henry C. Hopewell Jr. of Wolfeboro, N.H., Robert P. Hopewell of Denver, Col., Frank B. Hopewell of Central Point, Oregon, and brother of Lloyd B. Seaver of Thompson, Conn., Charles H. of Stockton, N.J., Mrs. Abbie S. Jameson of Manchester, N.H., and Mrs. Anne S. Johnson of West Chester, N.Y., and also survived by 23 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.  Memorial services at the Douglas Funerl Home, 51 Worthen rd., LEXINGTON, Saturday, April 21 at 2 p.m.  In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the Huggins Hospital, Wolfeboro, N.H."

This obituary identifies his name, his wife's name, his children and step-children, his siblings, but no information about his occupation or associations.

James Daniel Seaver (1896-1973) was born 16 January 1896 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Daniel Badger and Jane Akhurst (Smith) Seaver.  He died 17 April 1973 in Arlington, Massachusetts. He married (1) 24 July 1920 Margaret Stewart Brigham (1899-????) in Cooperstown, New York, daughter of Robert Otis and Florence Vesta (Stewart) Brigham.  They had three children:

*  Margaret Ann Seaver (1921-2012), married 1942 Allen Ashley Crockett (1916-2013); married (2) 1978 George L. Carey. 

*  Robert Badger Seaver (1924-2006), married (1) 1951 Mary Patricia Sheil (1926-1981); married (2) 2005 Veronica Pilar Gil (1947-????).

*  Sally Ann Crandon Seaver (1927-2021), married (1) 1947 Samuel Chew Williams Fleming (1915-1993); married (2) 1959 Herbert Sheldon Johnson (1920-1990).

James Daniel Seaver married (2) 6 March 1943 in Miami Beach, Florida, to Hilda (Prince) Hopewell (1894-1984), the widow of Henry Chase Hopewell (1883-1939). 

James Daniel Seaver (1896-1973) is my 8th cousin twice removed, with common Seaver ancestor of my 9th great-grandfather, Robert Seaver (1608-1683).

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person has a fairly sparse obituary with excellent family information. I am glad that I can honor  James Daniel Seaver today.  

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
