Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 11 September 2023

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Attended the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) Board Meeting on Wednesday on Zoom and reported on the newsletter, Research Group and DNA Interest Group activities.

2)  Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society Fall Seminar on Saturday on Zoom with Gena Philibert-Ortega presenting four talks.

3)  Wrote, edited and published the monthly CVGS newsletter "Family History Gazette" for September 2023.

4)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for  7th great-grandmother #945 Rebecca (Rolfe) (Cutter) Whitmore (1662-1751) of Newbury and Cambridge, Massachusetts for the 52 Ancestors series on Friday.  I've written 496 of these sketches for my ancestors.

5)  Transcribed the four page  1947 Will and 1948 Codicil of Mary K. Seaver (1862-1948) of Staten Island, New York for the Amanuensis Monday series.  I've transcribed about 700 records in this series.

6)  Downloaded and explored the 2024 version of the genealogy software program Heredis. Imported a GEDCOM file, and checked out the "Wheels" feature in Rabbit Holes With Randy - The "Wheels" in Heredis Genealogy Software.

7)  Added over 650 photographs of Linda to a new "Linda's Photos" file folder on the computer, trying to get all of them in one place.  Lots of vacation and grandchildren photos!  I need to do this for myself and my parents and grandparents also.

8)  AncestryDNA now has 43,949 DNA matches (up 28 from 4 September) for me today, with no new ThruLines.   I added  Notes to 15 matches, and the DNA Match line for one ThruLines to RootsMagic.  MyHeritageDNA now has 11,688 DNA matches (up 19 from 4 September) for me, with no new Theories.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

9)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 9 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 49,849 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 2).

10) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 71,438 persons in my RootsMagic family tree (up 14), and 146,209  source citations (up 31).  Resolved 371 Ancestry Hints. TreeShared no new and updated profiles with Ancestry.  My Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 178,635 to be resolved, but I work on them several times a week.

11) Wrote 16 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which two were a press release. The most viewed post last week was
Guest Post: What Happened at AncestryDNA This Week? with over 1310 views.  Genea-Musings had about 75,000 page views last week.

12)  Real life:  This is week 183 since COVID restrictions started.   I stayed home except for visiting Linda almost every day at the skilled nursing/memory care facility. Walked every day on the block and talked to several neighbors.   Finished reading The Judge's List by John Grisham and started Faye Kellerman's Gun Games. Watched the SDSU Aztecs lose their football game against UCLA.  The Padres season continued, and I watched all of the games this past week.  They are 67-77 so far (2-4 this past week) and still in fourth place in the NL West division.  Watched the Chargers game on Sunday and they lost to Miami 36-34.
