Hey genea-folks,
it's Saturday Night again,
time for more Genealogy Fun!
Your mission this week, should you decide to accept it, is to:
1) How many different "trees" do you have in your genealogy management program (i.e., RootsMagic, Family Tree Maker, reunion, etc.) or online tree (e.g. Ancestry Member Tree, MyHeritage tree)?
2) How many trees do you have, and how big is your biggest tree? Do you have some smaller "bushes" or "twigs?"
3) Tell us in your own blog post (please leave a link in Comments here), in a comment to this post, or in a Facebook post.
Here's mine:
In RootsMagic 7, there is a "Count Trees" link in the "Tools" menu. I clicked that and saw the top of the list:
At the end of the list:
I have 156 separate "trees" or "bushes" or "twigs" in my RootsMagic database.
The largest "tree" is my family tree with all of my ancestral families, the ancestral families of my wife, the ancestral families of my grandchildren, and descendants of my ancestors that I have collected over 29 years. There are 42,453 persons in that very large tree.
On the other end, I have 11 "twigs" with just one person in them for some reason, including a duplicate of myself!
Some of the other "bushes" are for different Seaver/Sever lines, families that I have been unable to hook into my big tree, etc. Some of the small trees are Seaver folks for whom I've found no parents and I need to work on those a bit. Some appear to be errors.
I need to prune some of these twigs - either delete them or merge them into one of the bigger trees.
