Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Write a Genealogy Poem Using Artificial Intelligence

 Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

 It's Saturday Night Again -

Time For Some More Genealogy Fun!!

Come on, everybody, join in and accept the mission and execute it with precision.

1)  Have you ever written poetry?  About genealogy research?  Do you want to?

2)  You can use the FREE ChatGPT-4o tool to write a poem (or perhaps another GPT tool).  Write a prompt with details of what you want to include, and let the AI chatbot do the job for you!

3)  Share your prompt and your resulting poem on your own blog or in a Facebook post.  What is the poem's title?  Please share a link in Comments on this post if you write your own post.

Here's mine:

I'm an aerospace engineer, not a creative poet.  I deal in facts and analysis, not rhyming and soaring prose.  But ChatGPT helps me write a poem using a prompt of my choice.  All in about 10 seconds!

The Prompt:

"Create a poem about ace genealogist Randy Seaver, his extensive family tree with surnames  Seaver, Carringer, Richmond, Auble, Hildreth, White, Smith, Vaux and Kemp; localities Leominster, Mercer County, Killingly, Plymouth, Newton, Townsend, Glocester, Rolling Prairie, Ontario, Wiltshire, and Somerset; using websites of Ancestry, FamilySearch, American Ancestors, Findmypast and MyHeritage."

The Poem: [I call it “Randy’s Branches”]

In the realm where roots run deep and wide,

A genealogist named Randy Seaver takes pride.

With passion and precision, he seeks and finds,

The branches of his family tree, intertwined.

Seaver, Carringer, Richmond, Auble, Hildreth,

White, Smith, Vaux, and Kemp, in his ancestral sight.

From Leominster's lanes to Mercer County's fields so green,

Killingly's quiet streets to Plymouth's historic scene.

Newton whispers secrets, Townsend tells of yore,

Glocester guards its heritage, Rolling Prairie's lore.

Ontario's vast expanse and Wiltshire's gentle grace,

Somerset's rolling hills, where ancestors trace.

On Ancestry, he digs with care and keen eye,

FamilySearch reveals where past shadows lie.

American Ancestors, a treasure trove grand,

Findmypast connects stories from distant lands.

MyHeritage enriches with histories untold,

Randy's dedication shines like polished gold.

Through records and archives, in digital scroll,

He weaves a rich tapestry, a family whole.

Each name a legacy, each place a verse,

In Randy's research, past and present converse.

An ace genealogist, mapping time's endless sea,

Randy Seaver unravels his ancestral tree.

=======================================================

My friend and SDGS colleague, Marshall, has come up with a way to determine which collections are ADDED, DELETED or UPDATED, and to alphabetize the entries in each category. Thanks to Marshall for helping me out here!

In order to select a specific record collection on FamilySearch, go to https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list and use the "Filter by collection name" feature in the upper left-hand corner and use keywords (e.g. "church england") to find collections with those keywords.

Each of the collections listed above has a Research Wiki page (use the "Learn more" link). It would be very useful if the Wiki page for each collection listed the dates for when the collection was added as a new collection and the dates for major updates also.

52 Relatives: Stanley Richmond Seaver (1905-1910) of Massachusetts

I have posted over 500 genealogical sketches of  my ancestors back through the 7th great-grandparents and a number of close relatives - see the list in 52 Ancestors/Relatives Biographies.

This "52 Relatives" theme is a weekly series to document the lives of siblings of my ancestors with relatively short genealogical sketches, including important events, and with source citations.  These relatives lived and died within a family structure, and deserve a genealogical sketch - they were integral parts and important persons in the lives of my ancestral families.  I will post the sketches on my Ancestry Member Tree and in the FamilySearch Family Tree.

 =================================

Stanley Richmond Seaver, the third child and first son of Frederick Walton and Alma Bessie (Richmond) Seaver,  was born on 20 October 1905 at home 116 Lawrence Street in Fitchburg, Worcester, Massachusetts, United States.[1]

He appeared in the census on 1 April 1910 at 116 Lawrence Street (ED 1745) in Fitchburg, Worcester, Massachusetts, United States.
[2]

He died of scarlet fever on 24 April 1910 at the age of 4
years, 6 months and 4 days in Fitchburg, Worcester, Massachusetts, United States.[3] Stanley was buried on 26 April 1910 at Evergreen Cemetery in Leominster, Worcester, Massachusetts, United States.[4]

An obituary in the Fitchburg Sentinel newspaper dated 25 April 1910 noted the sad occasion:

Stanley Richmond, four years old son of Fred W. and Alma R. Seaver died at their home, 116 Lawrence street, Sunday, with scarlet fever, with which he had been ill for two weeks. The funeral was this afternoon at 2 o'clock, with prayer services at the house. The body was taken to Leominster for burial in Evergreen cemetery.”

His three older sisters recall that during his illness he was isolated in a room and only their mother could go in to bring food, help him, and hold him.  My Aunt Marion recalls sticking her finger through the keyhole in the door just to touch him and to talk with him in his last days.

Randy's Cousins -- 6th Cousin 4x Removed John Wilkes Booth (1838-1865), the Famous Actor and Assassin

This week's famous cousin is my 6th cousin 4x removed John Wilkes Booth (1838-1865), the famous actor and assassin of President Abraham Lincoln.

Here is his FamilySearch Family Tree short biography:

When John Wilkes Booth was born on 10 May 1838, in Bel Air, Harford, Maryland, United States, his father, Junius Brutus Booth Sr, was 42 and his mother, Mary Ann Holmes, was 35. He married Izola Martha Mills on 9 January 1859, in Cos Cob, Greenwich, Fairfield, Connecticut, United States. He lived in Baltimore, Baltimore, Maryland, United States in 1850 and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States in 1860. His occupation is listed as actor in United States. He died on 26 April 1865, in Port Royal, Caroline, Virginia, United States, at the age of 26, and was buried in Green Mount Cemetery, Baltimore, Baltimore, Maryland, United States.

The Wikipedia profile for John Wilkes Booth is here.

John Wilkes Booth (May 10, 1838 – April 26, 1865) was an American stage actor who assassinated United States President Abraham Lincoln at Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C., on April 14, 1865. A member of the prominent 19th-century Booth theatrical family from Maryland, he was a noted actor who was also a Confederate sympathizer; denouncing President Lincoln, he lamented the then-recent abolition of slavery in the United States.

Here is the Relative Finder chart showing my relationship to John Wilkes Booth:

My most recent common ancestors with 6th cousin 4x removed cousin John Wilkes Booth are my 9th great-grandparents Obadiah Holmes (1610-1682) and Catherine Hyde (1610-1684).

Treasure Chest Thursday - 1737 Birth of Mary Rice (1737-1767) in Worcester, Massachusetts Bay

It's Treasure Chest Thursday - an opportunity to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history research and genealogy musings.

The treasure today is the 1737 birth entry for Mary Rice in the Worcester, Worcester County, Massachusetts town records:

The birth record is near the bottom of the Rice items on the left-hand list of the image:

The transcription of this record is::

"Mary Rice Daughter of Jonas Rice & Jean his wife Born ye July 18 1737"

The source citation for this record is (using Evidence Explained 4th edition template):

Worcester [Massachusetts] Town Records, Mary Rice, daughter of Jonas and Jean Rice, 18 July 1737; imaged, "Massachusetts Town and Vital Records, 1620-1988," Ancestry.com (https://www.ancestry.com); Worcester > Birth, Marriages and Deaths > R names > image 54 of 7288; original records in Worcester town record book for "Worcester Births and Deaths, 1719-1750."

This is a birth entry from the Worcester, Massachusetts town records.  It is an Original Source, with Primary Information and Direct Evidence of Mary Rice's birth date and place, and her parents names.

Mary Rice (1737-1767) was born 18 July 1737 in Worcester, Worcester County, Massachusetts Bay, the daughter of Jonas and Jean (Hall) Rice of Worcester.  Mary married Jasper Partridge (1732-1821) on 12 October 1756 in Barre, Worcester County, Massachusetts Bay.  Mary died in Guilford, Windham County, Vermont on 22 February 1767.  They had 7 children.

Jasper and Mary (Rice) Partridge are my 6th great-grandparents, through their son Thomas Partridge (1758-1828) who married Hannah Wakeman (1763-1814) in 1785.
