Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- How Are You Telling Your Own Life Story?

  Calling all Genea-Musings Fans: 

 It's Saturday Night again - 

Time for some more Genealogy Fun!!


Come on, everybody, join in and accept the mission and execute it with precision. 

1)   How are you telling your own life story?  Who have you shared it with?  What do you hope to do in the future?

2) Tell us about your life storytelling so far in a comment on this post, or in a Facebook post.  Please leave a link on this post if you write your own post.

Here's mine:

I have done several things to date to tell my life story, including:

a)  I wrote a 21 page autobiography in 2001, updated it in 2013, and updated it again in 2022, and updated it again in 2024.  I used this autobiography to create my EmulateMe avatar that anyone can talk to - see an example in https://www.geneamusings.com/2024/01/first-look-at-emulateme-creating-ai.html.

b)  I have written 37 stories for a StoryWorth book, and shared them with my daughtrers, but I haven't published the book to date.  I need to get a round tuit.

c)  I have written many stories about my life in the Saturday Night Genealogy Fun theme on my Genea-Musings blog - see https://www.geneamusings.com/search/label/SNGF.

d)  I have over 800 family photographs on my Genea-Musings blog, many of them with my life activities as a subject, in the (Not So) Wordless Wednesday theme -- see   https://www.geneamusings.com/search/label/Wordless%20Wednesday.  

e)  I have several digital home movies from the 1940s to 1970s on my YouTube channel --   https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNBfeFGUa7ruvM-SUkjtk_g.  My plan is to run them in a Zoom meeting with my own commentary and put them on the YouTube channel.

f)  Another plan I have is to put many of my photographs, with a short description of each, into a Powerpoint presentation, record it in a Zoom meeting with commentary, and put it on my YouTube channel.  I did this at our 50th wedding anniversary party about our married life, but without the commentary because of time constraints.  I also want to do the same type of presentation with commentary for my wife, my parents, and my four grandparents.   

g)  All of these will go on my FOREVER page which my daughters and grandchildren can access for 99 years.  They will also be in my Google Drive account, and in my home computer archive if I ever get it started - another round tuit.

My friend and SDGS colleague, Marshall, has come up with a way to determine which collections are ADDED, DELETED or UPDATED, and to alphabetize the entries in each category. Thanks to Marshall for helping me out here!

In order to select a specific record collection on FamilySearch, go to   https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list and use the "Filter by collection name" feature in the upper left-hand corner and use keywords (e.g. "church england") to find collections with those keywords.

Each one of the collections listed above has a Research Wiki page (use the "Learn more" link). It would be very useful if the Wiki page for each collection listed the dates for when the collection was added as a new collection and the dates for major updates also.

52 Relatives: James Henry Richmond (1886-1913) of Connecticut and Massachusetts

I have posted over 500 genealogical sketches of  my ancestors back through the 7th great-grandparents - see the list in 52 Ancestors Biographies.  

I started a new weekly series called "52 Relatives" to document the lives of siblings of my ancestors with relatively short sketches with events and source citations.  They deserve a sketch also - they were integral parts of the lives of my ancestral families.  I will post the sketches on my Ancestry Member Tree and in the FamilySearch Family Tree.

James Henry Richmond was born 16 November 1886 in Killingly, Windham County, Connecticut, the 9th and last child of Thomas and Julia E. "Juliet" (White) Richmond of Killingly.[1-2]

The Richmond family moved to Leominster, Worcester County, Massachusetts in about 1895, and resided at 42 Summer Street.  James attended Leominster schools. 

In the 1900 US census, the Thomas Richmond family resided at 42 Summer Street in Leominster, Worcester County, Massachusetts.[4] The family included:

*  Thomas Richmond -- head, white, male, born Jun 1848, age 51, married, for 31 years, born England, parents born England, immigrated in 1856, a resident of the US for 44 years, a naturalized citizen, an overseer of a woolen mill, rents a house

*  Juliette Richmond -- wife, white, female, born Sep 1848, age 51, married, for 31 years, 9 children born, 1 living (obviously an error), born CT, parents born RI

*  Grace Richmond -- daughter, white, female, born Aug 1876, age 23, single, born CT, father born England, mother born CT, a shirt maker

*  Emily W. Richmond -- daughter, white, female, born Jan 1879, age 21, single, born CT, father born England, mother born CT

*  Charles E. Richmond -- son, white, male, born May 1880, age 20, single, born CT, father born England, mother born CT, a painter

*  Alma B. Richmond -- daughter, white, female, born Feb 1882, age 18, single, born CT, father born England, mother born CT, housework

*  Edwin T. Richmond -- son, white, male, born Dec 1883, age 16, single, born CT, father born England, mother born CT, a laundryman

*  James H. Richmond -- son, white, male, born Nov 1886, age 13, born CT, father born England, mother born CT, at school

In the 1910 U.S. census, the Fred W. Seaver (it is indexed as Leaver in the census record) resided at 116 Lawrence Street in Fitchburg Ward 6, Worcester County, Massachusetts.[4]  The family included:

*  Fred W. Seaver -- head of household, male, white, age 33, married once, 10 years, born MA, father and mother born MA, speaks English, superintendent in a comb shop, a worker, owns home, with a mortgage, can read and write

*  Bessie A. Seaver -- wife, female, white, age 28, married once, 10 years, 4 children, 4 living, born CT, father born England, mother born CT, speaks English, no occupation, can read and write

*  Marion F. Seaver -- daughter, female, white, age 8, single, born MA, father born MA, mother born CT, attends school

*  Evelyn Seaver -- daughter, female, white, age 7, single, born MA, father born MA, mother born CT, attends school

*  Stanley R. Seaver -- son, male, white, age 4, single, born MA, father born MA, mother born CT, attends school

*  Ruth W. Seaver -- daughter, female, white, age 2, single, born MA, father born MA, mother born CT, attends school

*  James H. Richmond -- brother-in-law, male, white, age 23, single, born CT, father born England, mother born CT, speaks English, comb-maker, in a comb shop, a worker, 24 weeks out of work in 1909, can read and write

James Richmond married Ethel Rosetta Judson (1890-1966) on 30 November 1911 in Danielson, Windham County, Connecticut[5-6].  

Ethel was the daughter of William R. and Anna (--?--) Judson of Killingly, Windham County, Connecticut.  She was born 12 November 1890 in Killingly, Windham County, Connecticut, and died 17 May 1966 in Danielson, Windham County, Connecticut.  She married (2) Clifton Gould Spauding (1886-1950) on 30 May 1917, and married (3) Alonzo Brooks (1890-????) on 14 June 1941 in Danielson. 

The wedding announcement in the Norwich [Conn.] Bulletin newspaper dated 1 December 1911, page 2, says[6]:

"Richmond-Judson

"At the home of Dr. and Mrs. W.H. Judson at noon on Thanksgiving day their daughter, Miss Ethel R. and James H. Richmond, Leominster, Mass., son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Richmond, formerly of Elmville, were united in marriage.  Rev. Elliott F. Studley of the Methodist church officiating.   The ceremony was attended by members of the families.

"The bride wore a handsome gown of white peau de cygne abnnd carried a bouquet of white roses.

"Mr. and Mrs. Richmond left during the afternoon for a wedding trip, after which they will occupy their home in Leominster.  No cards were issued.

"The bride is a graduate of Killingly High school, class of'09.  All of her life has been spent here, and she has a great many friends who wish her much happiness.

"The groom was for years resident in Elmville, and is very well known here.  He is employed in Fitchburg."

After their marriage, James and Ethel (Judson) Richmond resided in Leominster, Massachusetts where they had a daughter:

*  Anna Richmond was born 24 July 1912 in Leominster, Worcester County, Massachusetts.  There is no record of a marriage or a death.  The last record is the 1930 United States census when she is residing with her mother, Ethel Richmond, in Danielson, Windham County, Connecticut.

After Anna's birth, James and Ethel moved back to Danielson, Windham County, Connecticut, but James was ill.  James Henry Richmond spent the last part of his life in Clinton, Worcester County, Massachusetts at the home of his sister, Annie (Richmond) Pickford.  

His death certificate indicates he died 23 November 1913, was a resident of Danielson, Connecticut, male, white, married, born Nov. 16, 1886, age 27 years, 0 months, 7 days, a combmaker, born in Connecticut.  His father was Thomas Richmond, born in England, and Juliet White, born in Connecticut.[2]  

The cause of death was pulmonary tuberculosis, and he had suffered for about one year.  The doctor was Walter P. Bowers of Clinton.  The informant was Mrs. Walter Pickford of 896 Main St. in Clinton (his sister). The place of burial was Westfield Cemetery in Danielson, Connecticut on 25 November 1913.[2]

An obituary for James H. Richmond was in the papers of Geraldine (Seaver) Remley given to Randy Seaver in 2007.  There is a handwritten date of 1913 on the newspaper clipping, but there is no date of the clipping.  It is probably from a newspaper in the Killingly, or Putnam, Connecticut area.

The obituary says:

"James H. Richmond

James H. Richmond, who died at Clinton, Mass., Sunday, was the son of Thomas Richmond of this city.  His mother died here a few weeks ago and it will be recalled that one of the pathetic incidents in connection with it was the fatal illness of this young man, which precluded his attending his mother's funeral.

"Although but 27 years of age he had been sick for more than a year and hope of his recovery was abandoned several years ago.  He formerly lived in Elmville and Danielson and in the latter place, on November 30, 1911, just two years ago, he married Miss Ethel Judson, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. W.H. Judson of Danielson.  A daughter was born to them about a year ago.

"After the fatal character of his malady was recognized he went to Clinton, to the home of his sister, Mrs. Walter Pickford, and it was there that he breathed his last.

"The body was taken to Danielson Sunday evening and the burial took place at 1 o'clock on Wednesday afternoon.

"Beside his wife and daughter, his father and sister, Mrs. Pickford, there is a brother, Everett, who lives here; another brother, Edward, of Leominster, and three other sisters, Mrs. Frederick Shaw and Mrs. Frank Seaver, who live in Leominster, and Emily whose home is in California."

James H. Richmond is buried in Westfield Cemetery, Danielson, Connecticut.[7]

Next up we have another brand new record set, Irish Land Commissions which includes 741,255 records.

Covering 1891 to 1920, these records contain details of tenants who were able to buy the farm they occupied from their landlord and will contain the names of both parties, as well as where the farm was and how much was paid.

Northamptonshire Militia Lists 1762-1819

Our final addition this week sees 13,351 records added to our existing Northamptonshire Militia Lists.

Militia lists were recorded annually and sent to either the Justice of the Peace or the Lord Lieutenants and include information such as name, occupation the year the record was taken.
