Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - What Did Genea-Santa Bring You and Your Family?

 Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

 It's Saturday Night again -

time for some more Genealogy Fun!!

Here is your assignment, should you decide to accept it (you ARE reading this, so I assume that you really want to play along - cue the Mission Impossible music!):

1)  What genea-gift did Genea-Santa bring you and/or your family this Christmas season?

2)  Tell us in a comment to this blog post, in your own blog post, in a Facebook post, and be sure to leave a link to your post.

Here's mine:

*  I received See's Dark Chocolate peppermints from Linda and M&Ms from Lori's boys.  We received a framed photo of Lori and her boys in front of their tree.  I received a t-shirt from Lori and her boys, and a hoodie sweatshirt with the grandkids photos on it from Tami and her family.  Santa brought me a San Diego Memories photo book covering the 1960s and 1970s, and we received 14 metal spoons to replace the spoons lost over the past years (we were down to two).

Here's a photo of my gifts ...

Drat - forgot the spoons!  Oh well... maybe more will come in the mail after Christmas.  I know of one package held up in Newark NJ.

*  Santa was good to Linda too - See's peanut brittle, a sweatshirt with Tami's kids photos on it, a fancy sweatshirt, slippers, several word puzzle books, a Yahtzee game, a shawl, a jewelry set, and more is coming from Newark.

My friend and SDGS colleague, Marshall, provides this list to me from a program he wrote that compares the current FamlySearch record collections list to the previous week's list.

In order to select a specific record collection on FamilySearch, go to  https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list and use the "Filter by collection name" feature in the upper left-hand corner and use keywords (e.g. "church england") to find collections with those keywords.

Each one of the collections listed above has a Research Wiki page (use the "Learn more" link).  It would be very useful if the Wiki page for each collection listed the dates for when the collection was added as a new collection and the dates for major updates also.

4)  NOTES (with source citations as indicated in brackets):

The Bangs Family genealogy book[1] provides a short sketch for Apphia Bangs on page 20 and on pages 28-29 for her family information.

Apphia Bangs was born 15 October 1651, a twin with sister Mercy, the 8th and 9th children of Edward and Rebecca (Hobart?) Bangs of Plymouth and Eastham, Massachusetts[1-2].

She married, first, to John Knowles (1644-1675), on 28 December 1670 in Eastham[1].  John was the son of Richard and Ruth (Bowers) Knowles of Plymouth and Eastham.  He died on 3 June 1675 in Taunton during King Philips's War, leaving Apphia with three small children, all recorded in Eastham town records:

*  Edward Knowles (1671-1740), married (1) 1700 Ann Ridley (1674-1712), and (2) 1712 Sarah Elkins (1672-1753).
*  John Knowles (1673-1757), married (1) 1693 Mary Sears (1672-1745), and (2) 1745 Rebecca --?-- (1680-1773).
*  Rebecca Knowles (1676-1758), married about 1700 Thomas Tobey (1676-1757).

Apphia (Bangs) Knowles married, second, to Stephen Atwood (1653-1722), perhaps in March 1676/7[5-6].  Stephen was the son of Stephen and Abigail (Dunham) Atwood of Plymouth and Eastham. Stephen and Apphia had eight children, all born in Eastham, but only the last one recorded in the town records:

*  Stephen Atwood (1678-1745), married 1700 Martha Pike (1679-1729).
*  Malchiel Atwood (1679-1728), married 1700 Prudence Harding (1680-1713).
*  Joseph Atwood (1680-1740), married 1710 Bethia Crowell (1689-1752).
*  Apphia Atwood (1681-????).
*  Eleazer Atwood (1682-1729), married 1709 Joanna Strout (1685-1736).
*  Joshua Atwood (1683-1724), married 1721 Lydia Doane (1703-????).
*  Hannah Atwood (1686-1771), married 1714 Samuel Horton (1686-1778).
*  Thomas Atwood (1696-1784), married 1724 Phebe Mayo (1709-1783).

In his will dated 19 October 1677, and proved 5 March/ 1677/8, Apphia's father Edward Bangs gave his daughters[3]:
"...to "my daughter Howes, my daughter Higgens, my daughter Done, my daughter Hall, my daughter Merricke, and my daughter Attwood, four pounds apiece at my decease..."
In husband Stephen Atwood's will dated 20 May 1715 and proved 12 July 1722, Apphia (Bangs) (Knowles) Atwood was bequeathed[4]:
"Imp^s. I give and bequeath unto my Loveing wife Apphia Attwood the whole Improvement of all my houseing Lands Marsh or meadow ground that I am Possest of In the Town of Eastham Dureing her Naturall Life if she Remain my widdow until her Death but if she see Cause to Marry again she shall have the bed whereon we now Lodge with therefore Curtains and what Ever ^of^ Right belongeth to said bed; whence I Like wise Constitute make & ordaine my soul Executrix of this my Last will & Testament."
When the inventory was taken, widow and executrix Apphia Atwood made an oath in the probate court that the inventory was the truth.  Hence, she survived her husband.

Their youngest son, Thomas Atwood, was bequeathed possession of Stephen Atwood's lands after the death of Apphia, and she probably lived in her home in Eastham until her death.

The death date and place of Apphia (Bangs) (Knowles) Atwood is not known, nor is her burial place.
