============================================

In order to select a specific record collection on FamilySearch, go to  https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list and use the "Filter by collection name" feature in the upper left-hand corner and use keywords (e.g. "church england") to find collections with those keywords.

My friend, Marshall, has come up with a way to determine which collections are ADDED, DELETED or UPDATED.  Thanks to Marshall for helping me out here!

Each one of the collections listed above has a Research Wiki page (use the "Learn more" link).  It would be very useful if the Wiki page for each collection listed the dates for when the collection was added as a new collection and the dates for major updates also.

Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Your Hallowe'en Personality

Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

 It's Saturday Night again -

time for some more Genealogy Fun!!

Here is your assignment if you choose to play along (cue the Mission Impossible music, please!):

1)  Go take the Hallowe'en Personality quiz at    http://www.blogthings.com/whatsyourhalloweenpersonalityquiz/

2)  Post your answers on your own blog, as a comment on this blog, or on your Facebook page.

3)  Tell us if this is "right on" or not.  Have fun with it!

Here's mine:

*  You're a friendly person, but not the life of the party. You like making someone else's day - and you'll dress up if you think of a really fun costume.

*  You are an overachiever and quite popular. You'd save the world if you could.

*  Your inner child is curious, brainy, and maybe even a little gross.

*  You truly fear the dark side of humanity. You are a true misanthrope.

*  You're logical, rational, and not easily effected. Not a lot scares you... especially when it comes to the paranormal.

*  You are a traditionalist with most aspects of your life. You like your Halloween costume to be basic, well made, and conventional enough to wear another year.

This comes pretty close, I think, to the real Randy, at least as far as the choices provided go.

Now I have to go find my Genea-Man costume!  Maybe I'll go trick or treating with my pedigree chart on All Hallows Eve!

Surname Saturday -- EGGLESTON (England to colonial Massachusetts)

It's Surname Saturday, and I'm "counting down" my Ancestral Name List each week.

I am working in the 9th great-grandmothers by Ahnentafel number, and I am up to Ancestor #2173 who is Mary Eggleston (1614-????). [Note: the earlier great-grandmothers and 9th great-grandfathers have been covered in earlier posts.]

My ancestral line back through one generation in this EGGLESTON family line is:

1. Randall J. Seaver

2. Frederick Walton Seaver (1911-1983)
3. Betty Virginia Carringer (1919-2002)

4. Frederick Walton Seaver (1876-1942)
5. Alma Bessie Richmond (1882-1962)

8. Frank Walton Seaver (1852-1922)
9. Hattie Louise Hildreth (1857-1920)

16. Isaac Seaver (1823-1901)
17. Lucretia Townsend Smith (1827-1884)

32. Benjamin Seaver (1791-1825)
33. Abigail Gates (1797-1869)

66.  Nathan Gates (1767-1830)
67.  Abigail Knowlton (1774-1855)

134.  Jeremiah Knowlton (1745-1785)
135.  Abigail Peirce (1750-1775)

270.  Samuel Peirce (1712-1772)
271.  Abigail Stearns (1715-1798)

542.  George Stearns (1690-1760)
543.  Hannah Sanderson (1689-1770)

1086.  Jonathan Sanderson (1646-1735)
1087.  Abiah Bartlett (1651-1723).

2172.  Edward Sanderson, born 1614 in England; died 19 February 1673 in Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States.  He married 16 October 1645 in Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States.
2173.  Mary Eggleston, born about 1614 in England.

Children of Edward Sanderson and Mary Eggleston are:
i. Jonathan Sanderson, born 15 September 1646 in Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States; died 03 September 1735 in Waltham, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States; married Abiah Bartlett 24 October 1669 in Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States.
ii. Hester Sanderson, born 12 March 1652 in Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States; died 01 October 1693 in Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States.
iii. Ann Sanderson, born before 19 October 1654 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts, United States.
iv. Abigail Sanderson, born about 1656 in probably Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States; died 08 October 1693 in Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States; married Shubael Child 27 October 1687 in Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States; born 19 December 1665 in Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States.

v. Hannah Sanderson, born about 1658 in probably Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States; died 14 March 1743 in Weston, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States; married Richard Norcross 06 August 1695 in Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States; born 04 August 1660 in Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States.

The origin of Mary Eggleston is not positively known.  An article was published in The American Genealogist by:

*  Patricia Law Hatcher, "Enigma #31: The possible origin of Mary (Egellston) Sanderson of Watertown, Massachusetts," The American Genealogist, Volume 90 (2018) , page 51, 2018.

Her summary about Eggleston families was:

*  Mary is not the daughter of Bigod Eggleston of Settringham (Great Migration Begins)

*  Egelden children listed in Hercules list in 1614/5 not found in New England

*  Edmund Edenden of Cranbrook, Maidstone, and Tenterden, Kent, immigrated by 1637 to Scituate

*  Elizabeth (Bennett) Igguledon (later Patchen), widow of Stephen Iggleden, immigrated in 1638

*  Jane (--) (Eggleton) Britton (later Cole) immigrated by 1650 to Woburn

She argues for the fourth identification. Mary daughter of Elizabeth Bennett widow of Stephen Iggleden.

I have done no original research for this surname line.

New Records Available To Search This Findmypast Friday, 26 October 2018

I received this information from Findmypast today:

===============================================

New Records Available To Search this Findmypast Friday

There are over 461,000 new records and newspapers available to search this Findmypast Friday, including:

Staffordshire, Dioceses of Lichfield & Coventry Marriage Allegations and Bonds, 1636-1893

Over 13,000 additional records have been added to our collection of Dioceses Of Lichfield & Coventry Marriage Allegations and Bonds, 1636-1893. The new additions cover the years 1632 to 1941 and include images of the original documents. These records will enable you to discover your ancestor's age, marriage date, marriage location, occupation status, parish, and spouse's personal details.
The collection covers the diocese of Lichfield and Coventry, which includes Staffordshire, Derbyshire, north Shropshire, and north and east Warwickshire, from 1636 to 1836 and from 1836 to 1876, covers the diocese of Lichfield, which includes Staffordshire and north Shropshire.

London & Middlesex Registers & Records

Explore six fascinating historical publications containing more than 3,000 pages of aldermen, freeman, and criminal records along with parish registers from Chapel of Holy Trinity and St Nicholas Acons. The information you will discover about your ancestors will vary depending on the subject of the publication.
The collection includes the following titles:
·         Aldermen of The City of London, Vols I & II, published 1913
·         Criminal Chronology, or The Newgate Calendar Vols II & IV, published 1809-10
·         Decisions of The Court of King's Bench Upon Settlement Cases
·         Parish Registers of Chapel of Holy Trinity, Knightsbridge – Marriages
·         Parish Registers of St Nicholas Acons, City of London, published 1890
·         Register of Freemen of the City of London, published 1908

Waterford Poor Law Union Board Of Guardians Minute Books

Discover your Irish ancestry through searching the Waterford board of guardian minute books. Exclusively available on Findmypast, the collection contains more than 229,000 and covers the Waterford Union. New records from other unions across will be added in the future. With each result, you will be able to view a transcript of the vital details such as names, ages, birth years, location and event dates as well as an image of the original minute book. Images will provide you with a variety of additional details such as the reasons for why your ancestor's name was recorded in the board of guardians' minutes.
The board of guardians were responsible for the administration and operation of the workhouse and poor relief. The minutes of each weekly meeting recorded how many men and women were housed in the workhouse, how many were discharged or died, and the number of births. They would have also recorded the expenditures of the workhouse along with the names of the workhouse suppliers. Outdoor relief was also noted in the weekly minutes.

United States Directories & Almanacs

Explore dozens of directories from across the United States. Discover your ancestor's address and occupation or explore the history of your home address. The directories stretch across the 1700s to the 1900s.
Almanacs and directories are an excellent resource for anyone researching their family history and want to understand more about their ancestor's life. They provide insights into when the courts would sit and the presiding judge, as well as full listings of notable individuals such as President John Adams residing at 190 High Street in the 1798 Directory for Pennsylvania, business owners, trades people, civil servants, church leaders, school teachers and much more. Furthermore, you can explore the history of your home by searching the publications by address, where you may discover previous proprietors. These directories are a good substitute for the 1890 Census for the United States that was lost to fire.

British & Irish Newspapers Update

This week we have added 164,154 new pages to The Archive, and now we have over 28 million pages available to search. This week's update features one brand new title, The Bioscope, a fascinating publication dedicated to all things cinema that printed gorgeous colour images of all the latest films. Added pages so far span the years 1925 to 1932, covering the end of the silent era and the start of the talkies. With updates planned to cover the years 1908 to 1924, the addition of this publication offers an exciting and unique opportunity to delve into the early history of film.
We have also added pages to fourteen of our existing titles, covering the length and breadth of the United Kingdom and Ireland, including:
·         Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser - 1911, 1929
·         Belfast Telegraph - 1921, 1923-1925, 1927-1929, 1931-1934, 1936-1945, 1947, 1949-1950

Carpenter, published in Amherst, Mass., by Press of Carpenter & Morehouse, in 1898[1].  It is apparent that the author obtained vital records information from the town records.  There is little biographical information about this family in the book.

Daniel Carpenter (1712-????) was the third son and fourth child (of six) of Solomon and Elizabeth (Tefft) Carpenter.  He was born 28 December 1712 in South Kingstown, Rhode Island[1-2].  The family may have lived on land near the Solomon Carpenter Lot cemetery on south Road in south Kingstown.

Daniel was married to Renewed Smith on 29 April 1733 in North Kingstown by Justice Daniel Coggeshall[1.3].  Renewed was the daughter of Ephraim and Margaret (Pearce) Smith.   They had at twelve children, all registered in the South Kingstown town records:

*  Jeremiah Carpenter (1734-1808), married 1754 Abigail Sheldon (1734-????).
*  Sarah Carpenter (1735-1800), married 1752 Nathaniel Gardner (1735-????).
*  Jonathan Carpenter (1739-????), married 1760 Marion Lock (1740-????).
*  Elizabeth Carpenter (1741-????), married 1760 Stephen Hazard (1730-1804).
*  Daniel Carpenter (1744-1823), married 1762 Susannah Congdon (1748-1818).
*  Renewed Carpenter (1746-1810), married 1764 Benjamin Stanton (1740-1787).
*  Margaret Carpenter (1749-1800), married 1768 Robert Rodman (1745-1806)
*  Mercy Carpenter (1752-????).
*  Hannah Carpenter (1754-1810), married 1774 George Armstrong (1752-????).
*  James Carpenter (1756-1824), married 1778 Anna Rodman (1757-1832).
*  Mary Carpenter (1759-1832), married 1783 Joseph Knowles (1760-1810).
*  Stephen Carpenter (1763-1835), married 1787 Susannah Champlin (1764-????).

Daniel's father, Solomon Carpenter, wrote his will on 30 April 1750, and it was proved in South Kingstown, Rhode Island on 18 October 1750[4].  In his will, Solomon bequeathed the following to his son Daniel Carpenter:

"And as to the rest and Residue of my Estate both Real and Personal be it of what Kind or Nature soever or Where soever the Same is or may be found I do Give Demise and Bequeath the same unto my well beloved Son Daniel Carpenter to him and his Heirs and Assigns for Ever.  He also named his "Well beloved Son Daniel Carpenter my whole and Sole Executor of this my Last will and Testament..."

There was no inventory or distribution so it is unknown what real and personal estate was received by Daniel.

A Daniel Carpenter was listed in South Kingstown in the 1777 Military Census for Rhode Island, but it is unknown if this was the present Daniel Carpenter - it may have been his son.  There are three entries for a Daniel Carpenter in the 1782 Tax List for South Kingstown, one is listed as Junior, another as "Un."  It is unknown if one of them was the present Daniel Carpenter.

Daniel Carpenter's death date is not known with certainty.  The last known record is the birth of his last child in 1763.  Some online family trees say his death date was 29 July 1784.

Daniel and his wife are probably buried in the Daniel Carpenter Lot cemetery on Gooseberry Road in South Kingstown.  The Find A Grave memorial notes that the stones are unmarked, and the memorial provides no death date[5].

There are no probate records for Daniel Carpenter in the South Kingstown town probate records.
