Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Your 2020 Plans/Goals/Resolutions for Your Genealogy Research

Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

 It's Saturday Night again -

time for some more Genealogy Fun!!

Here is your assignment, should you decide to accept it (you ARE reading this, so I assume that you really want to play along - cue the Mission Impossible music!):

1)  It's the New Year, and many readers have already made resolutions, or goals, or plans for one or more tasks or projects.  Or they haven't yet, but could or should.

2)  For this SNGF, please tell us what plans you've made, or what goals you've stated, or what resolutions you've averred for 2020.  Writing them down may help you achieve them.  Do one or more as you wish.

3)  Put it in your own blog post, in a comment to this post, or in a Facebook post.  Please leave a link on this post so readers can find your resolutions/goals/plans.

Here's mine:

I usually don't do this because it seems that I always fail.  However, I will state two goals that I hope to accomplish in 2020:

*  I want to apply to the General Society of Mayflower Descendants for at least one ancestral line - the William White line.  Several friends of mine recently applied and one received membership in GSMD so it can be done.  I feel a responsibility to do this for my cousin Laura who asked for help several years ago, and sent me the information she had collected, and I have not progressed past reviewing her material and my material.  I summarized it in Do I Have Enough Information to Join Society of Mayflower Descendants?  A reader in Illinois (?) who is a GSMD member offered to create an application and thought that I had enough evidence to support my application (and hopefully Laura's and any other Seaver/Richmond descendant).  I know the local and state colony leaders so perhaps this can happen.

*  A second plan is to keep gathering my triangulated DNA match data from the chromosome browsers on FamilyTreeDNA, MyHeritageDNA, 23andMe, and GEDmatch and create my DNA Painter display of which bits of every chromosome in my DNA came from which ancestors.  I have started the gathering process with MyHeritageDNA, but I have not finished it.  I need to do one of the sites each month, and finish this process, put the data into DNA Painter, and see the results.

It would help greatly if AncestryDNA provided a chromosome browser showing triangulated DNA segments for my DNA matches, but they don't.  They provide more matches, with known common ancestors, than all of the other sites combined - it's not even close!

Those are my two plans for 2020 - what are yours?

===========================================

In order to select a specific record collection on FamilySearch, go to  https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list and use the "Filter by collection name" feature in the upper left-hand corner and use keywords (e.g. "church england") to find collections with those keywords.

My friend, Marshall, has come up with a program to determine which collections are ADDED, DELETED or UPDATED.  Thanks to Marshall for helping me out here!

Each one of the collections listed above has a Research Wiki page (use the "Learn more" link).  It would be very useful if the Wiki page for each collection listed the dates for when the collection was added as a new collection and the dates for major updates also.

New Records Available To Search This Findmypast Friday, 3 January 2020

I received this information from Findmypast today:

                          ==================================================

New additions from South East England available to search this Findmypast Friday

Explore new additions from Hillingdon in Greater London. Discover birth years, death years, and places of burial. Each result will include a transcript that will reveal a combination of the deceased’s birth year, age at death, death year, burial place, monument type, dedication and inscription. Inscriptions are an excellent family history resource that can reveal a range of important biographical details as well as the names of additional family members. Many records will also include a description link that will direct you to a PDF document hosted on an external website that includes histories, images, and burial ground plans for the churches represented in this collection.
The transcripts in this collection have been provided by Hillingdon Family History Society, West Middlesex Family History Society, West Drayton & Northwood, Middlesex and cover the years from 1485 to 2014.

Search new records covering the parishes of Alciston, St Andrew’s in Alfriston and St Mary the Virgin in Willingdon. Each transcript will include a combination of the deceased’s birth year, age at death, location, and inscription.

The transcripts were created by Family Roots (Eastbourne & District FHS) and also cover inscriptions found at Chidingly; East Dean, St Simon & St Jude; Eastbourne, Ocklynge Cemetery; Eastbourne, St Mary, Old Town; Friston, St Mary The Virgin; Herstmonceux, All Saints; Jevington, St Andrew; Litlington, St Michael The Archangel; and Willingdon.

Over 153,000 new pages and a variety of new titles have been added to the collection since our last update. Recent new titles include the “Truth”, an early Edwardian publication that was known for its exposures of many kinds of frauds and was at the centre of several civil lawsuits. Other recent additions include Liberty, The Christian News, The Aberdeen Weekly News, the Smethwick Telephone, the Daily Review (Edinburgh), the Newtownards chronicle & Co. Down observer, The Western Evening Herald, The Witness (Edinburgh) and the Warrington Advertiser.

We have also made substantial updates to a range of existing titles including the Newcastle Evening Chronicle and Rochdale Observer.

4)  NOTES (with source citations as indicated in brackets):

The book by Frederick Clifton Pierce, Pierce Genealogy[1], provides an excellent history of the Pierce/Peirce family, but very little on the Joseph Pierce family.

Joseph Peirce was born in about 1644 in Watertown, Massachusetts, the seventh child of Anthony and Anne (--?--) Pierce[1].  His gravestone in Waltham indicates that he died in 1713 in his 70th year of his age[4], so in about 1644.

He married Martha --?-- (1647-1698) in about 1667 in Watertown[1], and they had ten children, all recorded in the Watertown town record book[1]:

*  Joseph Peirce (1669-1753), married (1) 1689 Ruth Holland (1665-1692); (2) 1692 Hannah Munroe (1674-1736); (3) 1736 Beriah (Bemis) Child (1681-1768).
*  Francis Peirce (1671-1728), married 1697 Hannah Johnson (1675-1728).
*  John Peirce (1673-1744), married 1702 Elizabeth Smith (1674-1747).
*  Mary Peirce (1674-????), married 1706 Jacob Bennett (1676-????)
*  Benjamin Peirce (1677-1740), married 1714 Hannah Chesley (1687-1777).
*  Jacob Peirce (1678-1740), married 1702 Hannah (Lewis) Thatcher (1662-1717).
*  Martha Peirce (1681-1759), married 1706 William Whitney (1683-1720).
*  Stephen Peirce (1683-1761), married 1708 Abigail Bemis (1687-????).
*  Israel Peirce (1685-1732), married 1718 Sarah Holland (1688-????).
*  Elizabeth Peirce (1687-1753), married 1706 Joseph Bemis (1684-1738).

Joseph's father, Anthony Peirce, died in 1678, and his administration was granted in 1683 to his widow Anne, and after she died to his sons Joseph and Benjamin, and Lieutenant Richard Way.  The will has been lost, so we do not know what was bequeathed to Joseph Peirce[3].

Joseph Peirce resided in Watertown throughout his life.  He was admitted a freeman 18 April 1690[1].

His first wife, Martha, died before 15 June 1698 in Watertown[1].  Joseph married, second, to Elizabeth (Kendall) Winship (1653-1719), the widow of Ephraim Winship[1-2].  They had no children.

Joseph Peirce died on 25 November 1713 in Watertown[1,4] and was buried in Grove Hill Cemetery in what is now Waltham, Massachusetts[4].

The inscription on his gravestone says:

"Here Lies Y^e
Body of M^r
Joseph Peirce
Died Novem^br
The 23, 1713
In Y^e 70^th Year
Of His Age."

Joseph Peirce died intestate, and the probate of his estate is found in Middlesex County Probate Records, Packet 17,514[5].  The administration file included:

*  Widow Elizabeth Peirce of Watertown and son Jacob Peirce of Weston were granted administration on 22 December 1713.  Bond in the amount of 400 pounds was given by Elizabeth Peirce, Jacob Peirce, Joseph Sherman of Watertown and Joseph Peirce of Lexington.

*  An inventory was taken by John Hastings, Joseph Sherman and Samuel Stearns on 18 December 1713, appraising the real estate at 257 pounds and the personal estate at 65 pounds and 10 shillings.  The real estate included:

**  One Mansion house barn and orchard with five acres of land adjoyning (80 pounds)
**  6 acres of plow land on the southerly side of the highway (36 pounds)
**  6 acres of pasture land called Bullard's pasture (30 pounds)
**  7 acres of divident land called Gearfield's pasture (35 pounds)
**  6 acres of divident land called the wood lot adjoyning Joseph Walling's mansion (12 pounds)
**  Part of a farm of 30 acres in Weston (35 pounds)
**  5 acres of meadow in Chester's meadow (20 pounds)
**  2 acres of meadow in Farm meadow (6 pounds)
**  2 acres of meadow lying near Thomas Stratton (3 pounds)

*  The account of Elizabeth Peirce and Jacob Peirce was presented on 22 December 1713 and accepted by the court on 27 December 1717.
