4)  NOTES (with source citations as indicated in brackets):

Information about the Barron family was obtained from the book by Patty Barthell Myers, Ancestors and Descendants of Lewis Ross Freeman with related families, based partially on the work of Freeman Worth Gardiner and Willis Freeman[1].

Mary Barron was born 1 March 1673 in Chelmsford, Massachusetts to Moses and Mary (Learned) Barron[1-5].  She was their third child and first daughter out of eight children.

Mary Barron married Nathaniel Harwood in about 1695 at about age 22 in Chelmsford, Massachusetts[1,3-4].  She was the daughter of Moses and Mary (Learned) Barron.  They had seven children, the first was born in Concord and the rest were born in Chelmsford:

*  Mary Harwood 1696-1782), married 1718 Robert Proctor (1689-1755).
*  Hannah Harwood (1698-1781), married 1720 Peter Proctor (1694-1770)
*  Elizabeth Harwood (1701-1739), married 1731 Jonas Prescott (1703-1784).
*  Rachel Harwood (1703-1784), married 1732 Stephen Pierce (1698-1761).
*  Sarah Harwood (1707-1796), married 17412 John Cram (1717-1782)..
*  Jonathan Harwood (1710-1784), married 1738 Mary Parker (1716-1754).
*  Susanna Harwood (1713-1775), married 1736 John Robbins (1710-1775).

The Nathaniel Harwood family made their home in Chelmsford, Massachusetts after 1696[4].

In 1732, Nathaniel Harwood and his wife Mary gave their landed property in Chelmsford MA to their son Jonathan Harwood, providing that "...they were to have the best room in the now dwelling house, with the best chamber, and a good, convenient cellar, without any let, stint or hindrance.  And deed not to take place 'till their, the said Nathaniel and Mary Harwood's, decease."[4]

Nathaniel died on 28 August 1751 in Chelmsford, Massachusetts at age 81.  He wrote a will on 7 June 1744 which was proved on 16 September 1751[6].  He bequeathed to his wife:
"Itm. I give to my Dearly beloved wife Mary Harwood as followeth, viz. That whereas I have given a Deed to my Son Jonathan Harwood of all my Lands Buildings &c to Him and his Heirs after my and my wife's Decease, In consideration whereof my Will is that my said Son Jonathan Harwood Deliver to his Mother aforesaid yearly Seventy Bushells of Indian Corn four Bushells of Rie and one Hundred and forty Weight of Pork and Eighty Weight of Beef, One Bushell of Mall & four Barrels of Cyder and that my Wife have the Improvement of half the Houshold Goods during her Life, and also that my s^d Son Keep a good Horse and furniture for s^d Horse for his s^d Mother use and Benefit also that He take Care of his s^d Mother in Sickness providing Physick &c and that he provide wood Convenient for her and Keep and Maintain for her use two Cows during Her Lifetime The which Cows at Her Decease to be Divided among my four Daughters whose Names are after mentioned, and my Will is that if my s^d Son shall faill in any of the Particulars afore mentioned that my Wife Shall have the Improvement or Income of one half of my Real Estate and that it shall be at her Choice which to take and accept of at my Decease."
Mary (Barron) Harwood died and before was buried on 10 October 1758 in Chelmsford, Massachusetts [1,3-5,7] - the vital record book says she was a widow, aged 85.  She is probably buried in a family graveyard in Chelmsford with her husband, and has a Find A Grave memorial[5].

No probate records for Mary (Barron) Harwood was found in the Middlesex County Probate Court records.

NOTE: In 2014, Amy Johnson Crow suggested a weekly blog theme of "52 Ancestors" in her blog post 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks on the No Story Too Small blog. I have extended this theme in 2021 for an eighth year to 416 Ancestors in 416 Weeks. Treasure Chest Thursday -- 1673 Birth of Mary Barron in Chelmsford, Massachusetts

   It's Treasure Chest Thursday - a chance to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history and genealogy musings.

The treasure today is the 1673 birth entry for Mary Barron in the Chelmsford, Massachusetts town vital records book:

The birth entry is near the middle of the page:

The birth record transcription is:

"[BARRON] Mary, d. Moses and Mary, Mar. 1, 1673"

The source citation for this record is:

Town of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, Vital Records of Chelmsford, Massachusetts to the Year 1850 (Salem, Mass. : The Essex Institute, 1914), Births, page 21, Mary Barron, daughter of Moses and Mary, 1 March 1673.

This is an abstract from a copied town record book for Chelmsford, Massachusetts, so it is a Derivative Source with Primary Information and Direct Evidence of the birth of Mary Barron and her parents names.

Mary Barron (1673-1758) was the daughter of Moses and Mary (Learned) Barron of Chelmsford, Massachusetts.  Nathaniel Harwood (1669-1751) was the son of Nathaniel and Elizabeth (--?--) Harwood of Concord, Massachusetts.  They married in about 1695, probably in Chelmsford.

Nathaniel and Mary (Barron) Harwood are my 7th great-grandparents, through their daughter Elizabeth Harwood (1701-1739) who married Jonas Prescott (1703-1784) on 7 March 1730/1 in Westford, Massachusetts.

Surname Saturday -- LNU (Grace married Ellis Barron, England/Ireland to colonial Massachusetts)

It's Surname Saturday, and I'm "counting down" my Ancestral Name List each week.

I am working in the 9th great-grandmothers by Ahnentafel number, and I am up to Ancestor #2333 who is Grace LNU (1605-1643). [Note: the more recent ancestral families have been covered in earlier posts.]

My ancestral line back through one generation in this LNU family line is:

1. Randall J. Seaver

2. Frederick Walton Seaver (1911-1983)
3. Betty Virginia Carringer (1919-2002)

4. Frederick Walton Seaver (1876-1942)
5. Alma Bessie Richmond (1882-1962)

8. Frank Walton Seaver (1852-1922)
9. Hattie Louise Hildreth (1857-1920)

18.  Edward Hildreth (1831-1899)
19.  Sophia Newton (1834-1923)

36.  Zachariah Hildreth (1783-1857)
37.  Hannah Sawtell (1789-1857)

72.  Zachariah Hildreth (1754-1829)
73.  Elizabeth Keyes (1759-1793)

144.  Zachariah Hildreth (1724-1784)
145.  Elizabeth Prescott (1734-1812)

290.  Jonas Prescott (1704-1784)
291.  Elizabeth Harwood (1701-1739)

582.  Nathaniel Harwood (1669-1751)
583.  Mary Barron (1673-1758)

1166.  Moses Barron (1643-1699)
1167.  Mary Learned (1647-????)

2332.  Ellis Barron, born 1605 in Waterford, Ireland; died 30 October 1676 in Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States.  He married before 1631 in probably Ireland.

2333.  Grace LNU, born about 1605 in England; died after 01 March 1643 in Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States.

Children of Ellis Barron and Grace are:
*  Mary Barron (1631-1716), married 1650 Daniel Warren (1627-1707).
*  Ellis Barron (1633-1712), married (1) 1653 Hannah Hawkins (1636-1674); (2) 1674 Lydia Prescott (1641-1712).
*  Susanna Barron (1635-1673), married 1653 Stephen Randall (1628-1708).

Moses Barron (1643-1699), married 1669 Mary Learned (1647-????).

There is no clear evidence of Grace (--?--) Barron's maiden name or parents.  Some online trees say she was Grace Hawkins.

I have these resources for the Barron families:

*  Patty Barthell Myers, Ancestors and Descendants of Lewis Ross Freeman with related families, based partially on the work of Freeman Worth Gardiner and Willis Freeman (Camden, Me.: Penobscot Press, 1995), page 482.

*  Eugene Diven Buchanan, "The Ellis Barron Family," The American Genealogist, Volume 20, number 2 (October 1943).

*  Dean Crawford Smith, edited by Melinde Lutz Sanborn, The Ancestry of Eva Belle Kempton, 1878-1908, Part I: The Ancestry of Warren Francis Kempton (1817-1879) (Boston, Mass.: New England Historic Genealogical Society, 1996), pages 119 to 131.

I have done no original research on the Barron family.
