Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Three Things About an Ancestor

  Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

It's Saturday Night again -
time for some more Genealogy Fun!!

Here is your assignment, should you decide to accept it (you ARE reading this, so I assume that you really want to play along - cue the Mission Impossible music!):

1)  What are three things about one of your ancestors that you have learned doing genealogy research?
)

2)  Write your own blog post, or leave a comment on this post, or write something on Facebook.

Here's mine:

I picked my great-grandmother, Abbie Ardell "Della" (Smith) Carringer (1862-1944).  Here are my "three things":

*  Della was born 11 April 1862 in Rolling Prairie, Dodge County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Devier James Lamphear and Abbey A. (Vaux) Smith.  I wrote a genealogical sketch for her life in    https://www.geneamusings.com/2014/01/52-ancestors-friday-abbey-ardelle-della.html

*  Della was the "packrat" and conservator in her family - she saved family letters, collected family photographs, wrote a daily journal,  and left boxes of "stuff." She was artistic, an actress, educated, and was a good writer.  She tried to keep track of all of her extended family.

*  Della was the entrepreneur and astute business person in the family.  She was granted a BLM land grant in the 1880s in Cheyenne County, Kansas, bought and sold property in San Diego County, paid the bills and managed the banking, and started several in-home businesses in San Diego.

I would have loved to be able to sit down with her and discuss her life.  I have only snapshots of events in her life that was lived during a time of great changes in the United States and in several states.

=======================================================

My friend and SDGS colleague, Marshall, has come up with a way to determine which collections are ADDED, DELETED or UPDATED, and to alphabetize the entries in each category. Thanks to Marshall for helping me out here!

In order to select a specific record collection on FamilySearch, go to   https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list and use the "Filter by collection name" feature in the upper left-hand corner and use keywords (e.g. "church england") to find collections with those keywords.

Each one of the collections listed above has a Research Wiki page (use the "Learn more" link). It would be very useful if the Wiki page for each collection listed the dates for when the collection was added as a new collection and the dates for major updates also.

Treasure Chest Thursday -- 1690 Birth Record of Mary Sambourne (1690-1790?) in Hampton, New Hampshire

 I looked in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history and genealogy musings for Treasure Chest Thursday.

The treasure today is the 1690 birth record of Mary Sambourne in Hampton, New Hampshire:

The transcription of this birth record is:

Child's Name:      Mary Sambourne
Date of Birth:       27 October 1690
Sex:                       Female
Father:                 Benjamin Sambourne
Mother:                Sarah

Clerk:  Horace M. Dane
Town:  Hampton
Date:  April 23, 1906

The source citation for this birth record is:

"New Hampshire, U.S., Birth Records, 1631-1920," indexed database with record images, Ancestry.com (https://www.ancestry.com), Birth Certificate > 1631-1900 > Sanborn I - Sand, #323, Mary Sambourne birth entry, 27 October 1690; Original data: Birth Certificates, 1631-1920. New Hampshire Department of State. Concord, New Hampshire.

This record is a Derivative Source, with Primary Information and Direct Evidence of the birth of Mary Sambourne to Benjamin and Sarah Sambourne on 27 October 1690.  The original record is probably in a Hampton town record book that may no longer be available.

Mary Sambourne (1690-1790?) was born 27 October 1690 in Hampton, New Hampshire, the daughter of Benjamin and Sarah (Worcester) Sambourne.  She married William Healey (1688-1772) on 13 January 1715/6 in Hampton.  They had nine children.

William and Mary (Sambourne) Healey are my 7th great-grandparents.  I am descended through their daughter Joanna Healey (1719-1809) who married John Underhill (1720-1793) on 21 October 1741 in Chester, New Hampshire.
