===========================================

In order to select a specific record collection on FamilySearch, go to  https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list and use the "Filter by collection name" feature in the upper left-hand corner and use keywords (e.g. "church england") to find collections with those keywords.

My friend, Marshall, has come up with a way to determine which collections are ADDED, DELETED or UPDATED.  Thanks to Marshall for helping me out here!

Each one of the collections listed above has a Research Wiki page (use the "Learn more" link).  It would be very useful if the Wiki page for each collection listed the dates for when the collection was added as a new collection and the dates for major updates also.

Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- One of Your Immigrant Ancestors

Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

 It's Saturday Night again -

time for some more Genealogy Fun!!

Here is your assignment if you choose to play along (cue the Mission Impossible music, please!):

1)
Tell us about one of your immigrant ancestors.  Where and when did they come from, how did they migrate, where did they land, where did they settle?

2)  Share your immigrant ancestor information in your own blog post, on Facebook, and leave a link to it in the comments.

Thank you to Linda Stufflebean for suggesting this topic.

Here's mine:

I have two 19th century immigrant ancestor couples, both from England.  I have a number of German 18th century ancestors who settled in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.  I have hundreds of 17th century English ancestors who came to North America during the Great Migration, and also a few Dutch and French who came in the 17th century.

For this challenge, I'm going to choose my most recent immigrant ancestors, James Richman (1821-1912), his wife Hannah Rich (1824-1911), and their son, Thomas Richman (1848-1917).  This Richman family was from Hilperton, near Trowbridge, in Wiltshire.  The family story is that James was accused of stealing coal from the Avon and Kennett Canal, was found innocent, but with his reputation besmirched, he went to America.  James arrived in New York City on 22 October 1855 on the ship Calhoun, out of Liverpool, along with his brother-in-law, Samuel Rich.

Hannah (Rich) Richman and her children, including Thomas, arrived on 14 November 1856 on the ship Osprey, out of Glasgow.

Nothing is known about their first years in america.  In the 1860 U.S. census, they resided in Burrilville, Rhode Island, and James was a farm laborer.  By the 1870 U.S. Census, the James Richmond family resided in Putnam, Connecticut, and James was a worker in a woolen mill.  Thomas Richmond married Julia White in 1868, and resided in Stonington, Connecticut, and worked in a woolen mill.  In the 1880 U.S. Census, James Richmond was a farmer in Putnam, and Thomas was an overseer in a woolen mill in Killingly, Connecticut.  The James Richmond dairy farm was located at 1 Richmond Road in Putnam.

Surname Saturday -- LNU (Susanna, who married John Whipple, England to colonial Massachusetts)

It's Surname Saturday, and I'm "counting down" my Ancestral Name List each week.

I am working in the 9th great-grandmothers by Ahnentafel number, and I am up to Ancestor #2387 who is Susanna LNU (1598-1658). [Note: the more recent ancestral families have been covered in earlier posts.]

My ancestral line back through one generation in this LNU family line is:

1. Randall J. Seaver

2. Frederick Walton Seaver (1911-1983)
3. Betty Virginia Carringer (1919-2002)

4. Frederick Walton Seaver (1876-1942)
5. Alma Bessie Richmond (1882-1962)

8. Frank Walton Seaver (1852-1922)
9. Hattie Louise Hildreth (1857-1920)

18.  Edward Hildreth (1831-1899)
19.  Sophia Newton (1834-1923)

36.  Zachariah Hildreth (1783-1857)
37.  Hannah Sawtell (1789-1857)

74.  Josiah Sawtell (1768-1847)
75.  Hannah Smith (1768-1827)

148.  Ephraim Sawtell (1735-1800)
149.  Abigail Stone (1737-1800)

298.  James Stone (1702-1783)

299.  Mary Farwell (1709-1804)

596.  John Stone (1658-1735)
597.  Sarah Nutting (1663-????)

1192.  Simon Stone (1631-1708)
1193.  Mary Whipple (1634-1720)

2386.  John Whipple, born before 29 August 1596 in Bocking, Essex, England; died 30 June 1669 in Ipswich, Essex, Massachusetts, United States.  He was the son of 4772. Matthew Whipple and 4773. Joanna LNU.  He married about 1620 in probably Bocking, Essex, England.
2387.  Susanna LNU, born 1598 in Bocking, Essex, England; died 14 June 1658 in Ipswich, Essex, Massachusetts, United States.

Children of John Whipple and Susanna are:
*  Susanna Whipple (1622-1692), married 1648 Lionel Worth (1627-1669).
*  John Whipple (1624-1624).
*  John Whipple (1625-1683), married (1) 1653 Martha Reynor (1632-1680); (2) 1680 Elizabeth Burr (1630-1694).
*  Elizabeth Whipple (1627-1648), married 1647 Anthony Potter (1628-1690).
*  Matthew Whipple (1628-1634).
*  William Whipple (1631-1641).
*  Ann Whipple (1633-1634).
Mary Whipple (1634-1720), married 1655 Simon Stone (1631-1708).
*  Judith Whipple (1635-1638).
*  Matthew Whipple (1638-1638).
*  Sarah Whipple (1641-1681), married 1661 Joseph Goodhue (1639-1697).

Wow, six of the 11 children died as children.

I have found no information that provides Susanna's maiden surname, except for the FamilySearch Family Tree which provides the surname of Clarke and a marriage date with John Whipple.

Information on the Whipple family was obtained from:

1)   Blaine Whipple, History and Genealogy of "Elder" John Whipple of Ipswich, Massachusetts (Victoria, B.C. : Whipple Development Corporation, 2003).

2)  Henry Burdette Whipple, A Partial List of the Descendants of Mathew Whipple, the Elder, of Bocking, Essex County, England (High Point N.C. : 1965).

I have done no original research on this WHIPPLE line or on the suggested CLARKE line..
